Job Description Summary:
Legal Research Assistants (RAs) provide valuable research support for law faculty scholarship.
  • In-depth and sophisticated legal and non-legal research,
  • Analyzing various primary sources including state and federal statutes, caselaw, regulations, constitutions, and secondary legal sources such as law review articles and legal treatises,
  • Communicating research results to faculty verbally and/or in writing,
  • Comprehensive cite checking which requires an understanding of sources from full or partial citations and extensive knowledge and application of The Bluebook: A Uniform System of Citation,
  • Maintaining confidentially of faculty projects and course assignments,
  • Following protocols for academic legal writing regarding proper attribution, plagiarism, and general academic integrity,
  • Working independently without daily supervision; exercising professional judgment when consulting with professor, librarians, and law school staff,
  • Managing time and adhering to time sensitive deadlines,
  • Acquiring and maintaining knowledge of any database or software necessary to support faculty research; examples include Zotero, Juris-M, Endnote, Microsoft Word (footnotes, tables of authorities, complex formatting), complex docket searching and data coding.

Requirements:
Must be hired by Professor Ana Santos Rutschman to assist with her health law research.Must be a currently enrolled law student at Villanova University's Charles Widger School of Law.
