Associate Scientist

Job Duration: 6 months

Location:Philadelphia PA 19112

Job Description The Associate Scientist is a temporary position to assist the laboratory during a leave. Associate Scientist Temp duties will include traditional microbiology analyses as well as advanced methodologies such as mass spectrometry and sequencing.

Main Responsibilities:

DNA/RNA isolation & extraction, QC of DNA/RNA, library prep in advance of sequencing, sequencing on at least two platforms (MiSeq/iSeq), and seq data analyses.

Prepare, analyze, and perform the microbiological preparation and testing of food sample. Perform confirmation tests on suspect plates or tubes to identify the strain of microorganism.

Read, calculate, and record analyses. Correct any discrepancies that occur.

Assist lab management in the implementation/evaluation of new Microbiology/Sequencing methods.

Assist lab management in investigating lab issues related to process deviations and failures.

Evaluate systems that have potential for errors and work directly with company experts to determine appropriate changes to these processes that will eliminate the potential for error.

Assist in the development of training materials to be used in the lab.

Understand and participate in the proficiency testing process and how results are reported to the lab.

Track lab performance and corrective actions on microbiology proficiency programs.

Assist with investigation of errors and implementation of corrective actions.

Understand laboratory control chart data to ensure that unsatisfactory data is identified and addressed appropriately. Assist lab management with addressing errors.

Prepare data for customer-facing reports in a manner consistent with ISO/IEC 17025:2017 and ISO 23418 guidelines.

Will become proficient in some or all of the following: WGS, classic microbiology, Petrifilm analyses, FDA BAM confirmations, TEMPO and GeneUp technologies, veriFLOW technology.

Knowledge and Experience Required for the Job:

Bachelors in a scientific discipline

0-2 year's experience in a laboratory setting, or equivalent

Familiar with Office Suite of software (Word and Excel) 1 year

Familiar with pipetting

Microbiological plating, petrifilms, culture methods
