For this exact reason, we strongly believe in fostering teamwork, rewarding ambition, and providing opportunities for professional advancement.YOUR ROLE:As a Summer College Intern in our State College office, you will directly play an integral role in the success of our organization and the early formation of your professional career. As part of this team, you will work under minimal supervision or in collaboration with our knowledgeable, dynamic staff on a wide variety of projects.We have two levels for interns. Level 1 interns are Freshman and Sophomores. Level 2 interns are Juniors, Seniors and Graduate students. Level 1 interns will primarily be assigned lab tasks for our construction materials testing projects. Moreover, some key responsibilities will include assisting our lab manager, you will learn and execute lab testing of soils to include sieve analysis, Atterberg limits and compressive strength testing of concrete cylinder samples. You could also be assigned field tasks on our construction materials testing projects. Field tasks could include field observation, sampling and testing of construction materials, followed by clear documentation of results. Some materials you may work with in the field include (but are not limited to) soils, aggregates, concrete, grout, masonry, asphalt and structural steel placement. Level 2 interns will do a mix of Level 1 tasks along with office assignments working alongside other professionals. Level 2 interns may assist in report creation, soil classification, and other technical roles as directed by a professional. REQUIREMENTS:Commitment to work up to 10 weeks during the summer months. The weeks do not have to be contiguous.Reliable vehicle for construction sites, valid driver's license and satisfactory driving record.-Must complete pre-employment requirements-Ability to lift and/or move up to 60-80 pounds (soil and concrete samples, nuclear gauges, etc.)-Effective verbal and written communication skills.-Ability to perform basic mathematical procedures and use measurement tools.-Civil Engineer (Geotechnical) students highly desirable but other Geology or Engineering disciplines are encouraged to apply.
