Job Summary

The Medical Lab Technician II performs routine and complex laboratory testing while ensuring accurate and timely results. The role involves specimen evaluation, laboratory instrumentation, quality control, troubleshooting, and supporting overall laboratory operations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Determine the acceptability of specimens for testing according to established criteria.
  • Perform routine and complex technical procedures in accordance with departmental SOPs.
  • Monitor, operate, and troubleshoot laboratory instrumentation to ensure proper functionality.
  • Make technical decisions related to testing and problem-solving.
  • Prepare, test, and evaluate new reagents and controls.
  • Report accurate and timely test results to support quality patient care.
  • Perform and document preventive maintenance and quality control procedures.
  • Identify and replenish testing bench supplies as needed.
  • Assist with specimen processing when required.
  • Maintain a safe work environment and wear appropriate PPE.

Requirements & Qualifications
  • Associate degree in Biology, Chemistry, Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology, or a related field, or meet applicable CLIA and state regulatory requirements.
  • 2-4 years of clinical laboratory testing experience required.
  • State Medical Technician license may be required depending on position requirements.
  • ASCP or AMT certification may be preferred or required based on the specific requirements.
  • Ability to work independently and effectively within a team environment.
  • Proficiency with computers; familiarity with laboratory information systems is a plus.
  • Strong attention to detail, communication, and organizational skills.
