Job description

Qualifications
  • Degree from accredited 4 yr or 2 yr college and completion of an accredited Medical Technology Program, or Medical Laboratory Technician program.
  • Must be currently registered or eligible for registration as a Medical Technologist, Clinical Laboratory Scientist or Medical Laboratory Technician (ASCP preferred). If eligible for registration, you must pass the exam within the first year employed.
  • Two years of previous phlebotomy experience on patients ranging in age from neonate to geriatric and analytical specimen processing experience in a hospital clinical laboratory setting.
  • Flexibility in work arrangements, you may be asked to perform the same task for an extended period or to perform different tasks on the same day.
  • Ability to work with other people at the laboratory bench.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft office software, computer typing skills, and Epic LIS preferred.
  • Ability to work unsupervised during callback times or other hours as assigned.
  • Must maintain current BLS certification.
  • Associates or better.
  • Medical Lab Technologist.
  • Basic Life Support.

Responsibilities
  • Draws blood, processes specimens, and reports test results to ordering physician or other care provider.
  • Prepare samples for analysis.
  • Monitors procedures and tests in the lab, using abilities to maintain lab equipment and troubleshoot as necessary.
  • Analyses patient specimens for ABO/Rh, antibody screening, and crossmatching of compatible donor blood in the transfusion service.
  • Cleans and maintains laboratory facility.
  • Must always communicate clearly with attention to detail.
