As a Laboratory Technician in this role, you will perform advanced manual processing and problem-solving techniques in laboratory accessioning/data entry, including problem investigations and resolution. In this role, you will be involved in creating slides and/or performing duties associated with the subspecialty client liaison.

A caregiver in this role works nights from 4:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

  • Perform advanced manual processing and problem-solving techniques in laboratoryaccessioning/data entry, probleminvestigationsand resolution.

  • Be involved in creating slides and/or duties associated with thesubspecialtyclient liaison.

  • Be familiar with data analytics.

  • Receive andaccessionspecimens into the LIS.

  • Conduct higher levelaccessioningin the LIS including esoteric testing.

  • Conduct advanced tracking investigations.

  • Serve as a subspecialty client liaison.

  • Be responsible foradvanced problem solving/issue resolution (pendinglog/SERS/block QA).

  • The following duties are specific to Anatomic Pathology: perform tasks involved with creating slides and/or cell blocks, perform frozen section processing (frozen section slide creation), create cell block slides, clinical histology tissue embeddingandassistin cytology adequacy assessments.

  • Prepare specimens for analysis.

  • Perform manual processing (centrifuge, aliquoting and routine maintenance).

  • Run and resolve LIS logs.

  • Retrieve, sort,trackand deliver specimens.

  • Perform logistic activities within and outside oflab.

  • Use tracking software/devices.

  • Comply withsafety,SOP& regulations.

  • Maintainappropriate documentation.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • Associate'sDegree(preferably inScience)

  • Two years of lab processing experienceORBachelor's Degree in Biology, Chemistry, Physics or Medical Laboratory Science

  • Four years of lab technician or comparable processing experience may substitute the education requirement

  • Active enrollment in the Cleveland Clinic MLS program may substitute the education and experience requirement

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • Bachelor'sDegree inBiology,Chemistry,Physics orMedicalLaboratory Science


Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to perform specimen handling techniques and take measurements.

  • Ability to perform work in a stationary position for extended periods.

  • Ability to move throughout the department and hospital system.

  • Handles and transports bio-hazardous materials and potential carcinogens.

  • Ability to differentiate color, hue, saturation, and tones.

  • Ability to live/move up to 50 lbs.


Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as defined in the exposure control plan.

Pay Range

Minimum hourly: $25.00

Maximum hourly: $34.85
