Founded in 1976, Holy Cross Hospital - Davis has grown into a 220-bed hospital of choice for the flourishing communities of northern Utah. Over the years we have enhanced our care by offering a broad range of services, advanced medical technology, and a comfortable, convenient patient experience. To meet the needs of northern Utah's growing population, we opened a brand-new 16,000-square-foot healthcare facility in Roy, known as the Weber Campus. The Weber Campus, which is convenient for patients in Ogden, Roy, and other neighborhoods west of I-15, currently offers emergency care, radiology, mammography and 24/7 laboratory services. Located in the northern portion of the Wasatch Front and only minutes from Hill Air Force Base, you can enjoy quick access to Ogden, Salt Lake City, Antelope Island State Park, hiking, biking, and the beautiful outdoor activities that Utah is known for.
Job Summary and Responsibilities
As our Laboratory Assistant, you will contribute to the vital operations of our lab, primarily within specimen processing/intake, ensuring efficient and accurate handling of essential samples.
Every day you will assist with specimen management and clerical duties, perform blood collection and specimen processing, and potentially conduct waived or moderately complex testing as permitted by regulations and departmental needs.
To be successful in this role, you will possess meticulous attention to detail, strong organizational skills, a collaborative spirit, and a commitment to maintaining high standards of quality and safety within our laboratory environment.
  • Practices positive patient identification at all times, in all job functions.
  • Processes specimen into the lab, organized for department distribution. Moves processed samples quickly to laboratory departments for testing.
  • Handles Laboratory Send-out testing. Processes, organizes, packing lists, and packaging for testing sent to external laboratories according to procedures.
  • May perform phlebotomy. Follows blood collection procedures, performs venous and capillary punctures on all age groups of inpatient and outpatient populations, including blood bank collections. Utilizes appropriate collection techniques to obtain quality samples and adheres to appropriate volume requirements.
  • Uses good judgment when problem solving and requests help when needed.
  • Takes responsibility for the department workflow, assists all members of the team to maintain department workflow and efficiency. Creates an atmosphere by manner, work, and deed that fosters teamwork and collaboration.
