Position Title: Laboratory Support Technician II
Division: Consumer Products Services
Entity: ATL/Galbraith
Location: Mason, OH
Reports to: Manager
FLSA: Non-exempt
Hours Worked: Typically, Monday through Friday, forty-hours per week 1st shift.
However, must be flexible to meet the needs of the department and complete other projects as assigned.
Position Summary:
The Microscopy Laboratory Technician II is responsible for supporting both the Electron Microscopy Laboratory and the microCT Laboratory. The lab technician will prepare various samples, analysis samples via various imaging platforms, provide data analysis and interpretation, and train on multiple imaging and microscopy instruments.
Duties and Responsibilities:
It is everyone's responsibility to live out our Values and Absolutes by Shaping a World of Trust while ensuring responsible progress.
  • Perform various sample preparations techniques (ie biological specimens, consumer products, packaging materials, structured liquids, fibers, polymers) for analysis by SEM and TEM, light microscopy, and microCT
  • Prepare cyro-temperature samples, cyro-sectioning and freeze-fractures
  • Prepare samples on slides by chemical fixation, dehydration, resin embedding, microtomy/ultramicrotomy
  • Mechanical sample preparation, such as polishing, sectioning, punching, dissecting/cutting
  • Complete sample preparation pre-screening via light microscopy or other basic imaging methods
  • Prepare samples for microCT imaging by weighing, verifying scan regions, and placement onto loading systems
  • Perform microCT analysis by operating instrument, interacting with graphical user interface to set up samples, and initiate acquistion sequences
  • Analyze samples using various imaging platforms, including light microscopy, microCT scanners, spectrophotometers, texture analyzers as needed
  • Perform basic microbiology tasks such as growth and culturing of microbes, using aseptic techniques, and 96-well plate assays
  • Safe handling and preparations of chemicals, solvents, reagents, buffers, solutions, etc, by following SOPs
  • Retrieve images/data from instruments, process the raw data, and provide interpretations or analysis to clients
  • Maintain a clean, well-organized, and safe laboratory enviroment, adhering to all regulatory and safety guidelines
  • Order, organize, restock, and manage lab supplies, reagents, and media
  • Prepare samples and documentation for external shipping and receipt
  • Utilize digital tools and capabilities for workflow and data management
  • Follow the guidelines set forth with clients and in the company Quality, Health, Safety, Security and Environmental policies and procedures.
  • Comply with clients and company management systems in accordance with appropriate regulatory agencies.
  • Follows the guidelines set forth in by clients and the company Quality Manual and Safety / Chemical Hygiene Plan.
  • Other duties as defined by Manager, department needs and workload.

Skills & Proficiencies:
  • Precision laboratory skills needed, including micro-pipetting, balance use, creation of serial dilutions, etc.
  • Must have strong attention to detail and the ability to learn quickly
  • Must have good customer service skills- job is client facing and performed in client laboratory
  • Must be proficient in basic programs such as Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Written and verbal communication skills including the ability to communicate effectively in a group setting, with colleagues and clients
  • Ability to multitask and time management skills
  • Ability to organize and prioritize workload to meet or exceed deadlines
  • Positive attitude, self-motivated, high level of engagement

Education and Experience:
  • Associate's Degree, preferred Bachelor's Degree in a hard science field
  • Minimum of 6 months of experience working in a laboratory.

An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted in lieu of above.
Compensation Range:
$18 - $19 an hour (e.g., the job posting is not necessarily reflective of actual compensation that may be earned, and actual compensation is subject to variation due to such factors as locations, education, experience, and skillset).
