Highlights:
Summary: The Lab Assistant shall coordinate specimen processing area in order to ensure the collection, receipt in computer, processing, and delivery of blood specimens for Lab tests. This individual will utilize phlebotomy decision making and problem solving skills to ensure timely collection of all lab orders. The Lab Assistant will assist in training of Lab Assistant I and phlebotomist individuals. Additionally, this individual will coordinate lab sendouts and perform microbiology specimen processing.
Education / Experience:High school diploma or equivalent required. At least 5 years of proven experience in Hospital, Reference, or Physician Office Lab or Lab Assistant I required.
License / Certifications: Phlebotomy certification preferred
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Exceptional customer service skills and proficiency in utilization of personal computer skills.
Position requires sitting for 60% of the workday and mobility 40% of the workday.
There is occasional stooping, bending, kneeling, and crouching.
There is frequent reaching, use of hands and repetitive action.
Requires occasional lifting or carrying up to 10 pounds, pushing/pulling up to 50 pounds.
There is a continuous need for speaking with clear diction and hearing sensitivity in conversation either by phone or in person.
Continuous visual acuity at close and distant range.
Inside protected from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes. Minimal noise levels.
Much exposure to computer work.
Occasional exposure to risk of electrical shock.
Some exposure to infectious disease while performing job-related tasks.
Some exposure to hazardous chemicals.
