Job description

Job Summary:        

  • Register patients/specimens appropriately in the hospital information system with required information.    
  • Process physician orders for test specimen requirements; collect/receive specimens into the laboratory information system, utilizing appropriate technique and working exceptions as needed.    
  • Perform waived kit testing, as appropriate.    
  • Assist in front desk duties as well as outpatient workflow as needed.     
  • In the absence of the pathology assistant, function to process pathology specimens and reports as needed.    
  • Collect chain of custody urine drug screens and breathalyzer tests.    
  • Demonstrate and encourage team behavior and exceptional patient/guest experiences.      
  • Uphold and promote patient safety and quality.     

Education:                
High school diploma or equivalent required. Phlebotomy certification preferred.                    

Experience:                
Six months of phlebotomy experience preferred.                  

Additional Skills/Abilities:                
Must have the ability to prioritize, multi-task, remain calm under stress, and communicate effectively. Basic computer skills required.
