Job Requirements

Position Summary

A Laboratory Technical Assistant accessions patients/specimen into the department by validating and keying correct account and collection information and orders lab procedures in LIS.Processes patient specimens and blood products in preparation for testing within department and loads specimens onto automated analyzers.Enters inventory, orders supplies/products, performs departmental procedures, instrument maintenance, and issues blood products.A Laboratory Technical Assistant must follow established laboratory standards, practices, and procedures, and understands and complies with the Behavior Standards and department policies, procedures and regulations.

Core Job Responsibilities

  • Must be able to provide and understand the specific communication, developmental and treatment needs of patients, families, and visitors ranging in age from fetus to geriatric.
  • Must be able to perform instrument maintenance, and the loading of patient samples and RBC units onto instruments for testing.
  • Must be able to maintain inventory levels (blood, reagent, supplies) within the department with all associated ordering, tracking, and documentation.
  • Must be able to accurately perform blood component visual inspection for acceptance and issuance.Must be able to accurately issue blood products in a timely manner.
  • Must be able to maintain accurate records.
  • Must be able to accurately track and validate the bi-monthly blood supplier invoices.
  • Must be able to withstand the stress and demands of an active position while responding calmly and efficiently in crisis situations.
  • Must be able to work as a team member, demonstrating good interpersonal skills.
  • Must be able to communicate professionally with physicians, management, and associates.
  • Must be able to maintain stocked workbenches for the technical associates.
