Job Summary and Responsibilities

As our Laboratory Assistant, you will help the laboratory and healthcare team ensure accurate and efficient processing of patient samples and test results so they can provide timely and reliable diagnostic information for patient care.

Every day you will process specimens, assist with laboratory testing, and manage supply inventory. You will be expected to practice positive patient identification, maintain excellent communication, take responsibility for department workflow, and demonstrate HumanKindness in all interactions.

To be successful in this role, you must be able to follow written technical policies and procedures, use good judgment when problem-solving, and collaborate effectively with a team.

  • Practice positive patient identification at all times, in all job functions.
  • Take responsibility for the department workflow and assist all members of the team to maintain department workflow and efficiency creating an atmosphere that fosters teamwork and collaboration.
  • Evaluate and release test results under the direction of a Clinical Lab Scientist, evaluating result validity considering quality control results, instrument performance, specimen integrity and prior patient results.
  • Process specimen into the lab, organized for department distribution, and move samples quickly for testing and perform allowed laboratory testing following written technical policies and procedures, and handle laboratory send-out testing, processing and organizing packing lists and packaging for testing sent to external laboratories.
  • May perform phlebotomy, following blood collection procedures and utilizing appropriate collection techniques to obtain samples adhering to quality and quantity requirements 
  • Perform routine maintenance on lab equipment and maintain records as trained, and monitor department supply inventory, assist in stocking, and complete reagent logs.

  • BLS-CPR within 90 days of hire
  • Excellent customer service and time management skills

Preferred:

  • 6 Months experience in acute care facility
  • Lab Assistant and/or Phlebotomy certification
