Job Description:
*MULTIPLE POSITIONS AVAILABLE*
This position provides classroom and on-the-road driving support for students of the Truck Driving Program. The Truck Driving Assistant reinforces learning material and skills introduced by the instructor, assists the instructor with on-the-road driving supervision of student drivers, and helps students prepare for the commercial driver's license and road test.
PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Provide classroom and driving range support to faculty and students.
  • Inform students of safety regulations and enforce safety rules and procedures.
  • Provide supervision to students during on-the-road driving assignments.
  • Provide technical expertise and academic support for students studying for the commercial driver's license and road test.

Priority: Essential Percent of Time: 80%
2. Assist instructor with the preparation and maintenance of class materials, learning stations and test-out procedures.
  • Maintain records of student scores, assessments, reports, DQ files.
  • Prepare learning stations.
  • Follow test-out procedures and document test-outs.
  • Communicate student concerns or issues to instructor.
  • Report all safety concerns and incidents immediately to the instructor.

Priority: Essential Percent of Time: 5%
3. Ensure that all equipment is in working order.
  • Maintain equipment repair records and ensure that broken/damaged equipment is repaired or replaced.
  • Maintain an inventory of all equipment and supplies and ensure equipment is in compliance with all regulations.

4. Provide general assistance to department faculty, and act as a liaison between faculty and students.
  • Refer students to proper faculty members, and alert faculty members to special student problems.
  • Attend department meetings and complete all the required training.
  • Meet with faculty to provide input regarding improving and enhancing overall lab course effectiveness.

5. Perform other duties as assigned to ensure the smooth functioning of the department and maintain the reputation of the organization as a viable business partner.

$22.27 - $31.12 / $46,322.00 - $64,730.00
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Post-secondary or industry certificate/diploma/degree or relevant licensure in Truck Driving; OR Relevant licensure in Truck Driving AND one (1) year of teaching /tutoring experience in Truck Driving at the high school level or above; OR Four (4) years of work experience in Truck Driving where no degree / certificate / diploma / licensure is required; OR An equivalent combination of education and work experience
  • Valid Class "A" commercial driver's license (CDL)
  • Valid Department of Transportation (DOT) physical health card
  • Must successfully pass a drug and alcohol screening.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Effective communication skills, including the ability to sufficiently explain and assist students with successful completion of the truck driving program.
  • Bilingual/multilingual fluent in Spanish, Karen, Karenni, Somali, Pohnpeian, French, Nuer, Anuak, or other languages that reflect our student body, workforce, and communities.
  • Demonstrated experience working with multicultural and underserved populations.
