POSITION TITLE: Hiring Pool - ASL Language Lab
COMPENSATION RANGE: 20.00 - 28.00 per hour

Position Summary:
TheASLLanguage Lab Assistant will provideASL instructional supporttoUNCstudents enrolled inASLI-VI campus-based and online coursework.TheASLLanguage Lab Assistant will facilitate individual and small groupinteractions to supplement and strengthen the language units taught in thecourses.
This is a semester-long, part-time assignment that has the potential forrenewal each semester, including fall, spring, and summer semesters.
Job Duties:
TheASLLanguage Lab Assistant must be a native/near-nativeASLuser who is amember of the Deaf Community, with the skills to accurately modelASL, identifythe student's language challenges, and implement successful language learninginterventions. In addition, theASLLanguage Lab Assistant needs outstandingsoft skills to meet a variety of students where they are emotionally andacademically across three years ofASLcoursework atUNC.
TheASLLanguage Lab Assistant will work independently and therefore will needto exercise critical thinking and judgment in all their interactions. As amember of the Department, theASLLanguage Lab Assistant will need to befamiliar with federal laws (e.g.,FERPA) andUNCpolicies (e.g., technologyusers' policy), as well as some of the external regulatory bodies thatinfluence theASLISphilosophy and course design (e.g., American Council onTeaching Foreign Language, Commission on Collegiate Interpreter Education).
Finally, theASLLanguage Lab Assistant will work with technology in the laband at a distance and need familiarity with these media.

  • Competence with technologies, in the lab and delivered to distancestudents
