Company Description

A teacher himself, Toru Kumon believed every child has hidden potential that can be drawn out by harnessing that individual's unique abilities. Only by empowering children to achieve through their own efforts will they gain the means and motivation to realize their full potential. That's the guiding principle of the Kumon Method.

Prompted by a crumpled arithmetic test his wife found in their son's pocket, Toru Kumon carefully crafted assignments for Takeshi to complete daily. Each pinpointed a single concept in such a way that it could be grasped and applied with little or no assistance. His son's dramatic and sustained progress inspired Toru Kumon to help other children benefit too. The method of instruction he developed is thriving today at over 25,000 KUMON Math and Reading Centers in 45 countries.
The ability of the KUMON Method to transcend cultures and languages is a testament to its power and promise as an educational program. A truly universal learning system, it has enabled children from one culture and generation to the next to perform, even excel, often beyond expectations. Visit www.kumon.com for more information on the program.
