Founded in 1968, Kualoa-Heeia Ecumenical Youth (KEY) Project is a nonprofit community organization dedicated to nurturing the well-being of people and aina by supporting, serving, and sustaining our community. Serving residents from Waimea to Waimanalo, KEY Project provides programs that strengthen food security, cultural connection, youth development, kupuna wellness, and disaster resilience.

The purpose of the Climate Champion - Nursery and Mala Kakoo is to facilitate the distribution of plant starts, in conjunction with education support, to the Windward community for building a future of resilient agriculture practices and coastlines. Through teamwork and collaboration, this position builds on the foundation of KEY's legacy and values to sustain quality services, programs, and events throughout our service area and specifically in Koolauloa.

• Supports the execution of onsite nursery management on a daily basis.
• Gathers, develops and distributes relevant educational materials via multiple avenues, including but not limited to electronic distribution, in person facilitation, and hard copy documents.
• Assists in the ongoing and regular maintenance of the KEY Project Mala through gardening and landscaping methods.
• Organizes and attends occasional weekend workdays and workshops as assigned.
• Meets regularly with Climate Champion Supervisor to identify and prioritize relevant assignments, duties, and tasks.
• Performs all other related duties as assigned. 

• Basic knowledge of sustainable agriculture practices and techniques 
• Minimum one (1) year experience working with youth 
• Comfort with outdoor spaces and work environments
• Capability to perform ongoing physical labor 
• Ability to maintain tools and equipment with confidence to perform minor repairs as needed
• Positive attitude and ability to work well with others 

• General office skills 
• Have general cultural knowledge of Koolauloa moku.

Job functions will be primarily performed outdoors with exposure to various temperatures, weather conditions, and potentially uneven terrain or vegetation. Secondary duties may be performed indoors in an office environment. A majority of work will be done onsite with periodic attendance at offsite locations required. 

This position requires the ability to walk, move, squat, stand in a variety of positions and locations throughout the campus, the ability to lift a minimum of 25 pounds, and the ability to maintain spatial awareness of surroundings.

Starting Pay: $16 - $20 per hour

Employment is contingent upon grant funding.

Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a criminal background check.
