Position Overview

Perform/create informative and engaging news show content either live or on a pre-recorded basis for KSL NewsRadio. Management will assign responsibilities on a regular and/or rotating basis depending upon need and proven capabilities and the need to provide expertise for the future.

Note: Work configurations are subject to change based on business needs and at company discretion.

  • This position is an on-site role that requires the employee to regularly work at our Salt Lake City site.

What You Will Do:

Primary job duties will include, but are not limited to:

  • Select and develop story ideas for on-air presentation
  • Collaborate with a show producer to create performance ideas and audio opportunities
  • Capture the attention of an audience with a unique and informed perspective
  • Develop an on-air presence and a professional demeanor that exudes confidence
  • Discuss current events in a conversational manner
  • Demonstrate spontaneity and flair while simultaneously showing depth, good judgment and sensitivity
  • Enunciate clearly, speak confidently, and interpret and read written copy fluently
  • Execute format philosophy and work with a team of other professionals while creating a distinctive sound
  • Ability to operate studio, recording and editing equipment as needed
  • Desire to innovate show segments and develop creative new performance ideas
  • Accept direction and critique and incorporate feedback into future programs
  • Work in a fast and concise manner under pressure
  • Present live, unscripted and breaking information with continuity, meaning and clarity
  • Other duties as assigned

Skills and Experience We Are Looking For:

  • Minimum of 5 years experience working in a newsroom environment.  Minimum of 2 years on-air show experience preferred. 
  • News judgement.
  • News writing experience
  • Passion for news and current affairs.
  • Experience in radio news hosting.
  • Aggressive attitude with a strong desire to advance in the broadcasting media.
  • Ability to use humor.
  • Spends time researching topics.
  • Ability to be respected by newsmakers during interviews.
  • Strong desire to work at the state’s largest and most respected radio station. 
  • Multi-tasking pro.  Ability to be organized with the capability to concentrate on more than one event at a time, able to follow written and verbal instructions under moderate supervision.
  • Proven ability to work under pressure to meet daily/weekly deadlines. 
  • Willing to be active in the community, on video and on social media.
  • Self-starter with the ability to assure accuracy in on-air product.  Errors may incur financial time loss.
  • Monitor news on a daily basis. 
  • Computer skills.

Physical Demands

  • Receive, process, and maintain information through oral and/or written communication effectively.
  • Manual dexterity and fine motor skills to operate computer keys and general office equipment. Ability to work on a computer for prolonged periods of time.
  • Sit and/or stand for extended periods of time.
  • Lift, move, and carry up to 35 pounds on occasion

Compensation

Salary to be determined by multiple factors including but not limited to evaluation of the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant along with internal equity and alignment with market data.
