We will look for someone who can help lead and strengthen our team.With a long standing tradition of photojournalism excellence in the intermountain we hope you're the next person to join our team.The News is a digital-first, multi-platform newsroom, sharing resources with our sister broadcast partners, KSL-TV (NBC), KSL NewsRadio (ABC).We provide powerful still images to both Deseret.com, our in-depth branded website with ten million monthly unique visitors, and our breaking news website, KSL.com, which has 24 million monthly sessions. Additionally we provide photojournalism for our print products.We compete daily with The Salt Lake Tribune, along with several other daily publications and five local television stations. Our staff continuously wins numerous photojournalism awards yearly, both regionally and nationally, including NPPA's Best of Photojournalism contest and the University of Missouri School of Journalism’s POYi competition.The Deseret News places a big emphasis on high quality photojournalism, with a special focus on in-depth coverage. There are also opportunities to cover Big12, NBA, NHL, MLS and occasionally Olympic qualifying events.Company equipment is provided, including a full set of Canon mirrorless gear, a light kit, a cell phone allowance and a MacBook Pro with Verizon hotspots.This full time position includes a good benefits package, both medical and dental, along with a 401k matching program and three weeks of vacation.Our open position will encompass daily assignments, in-depth projects, assignment and photo editing (usually one day a week) and extended editing responsibilities on specific days for vacation relief.The ideal candidate should have a minimum of three to five years of experience, including some managerial and photo editing. A degree in photojournalism, journalism or the equivalent in work experience is also required.Other qualities we are looking for include the following:Have strong communication skills and can work with all of the different departmentsHave excellent technical skills with both photography and computersThis person should be detail oriented, organized and adaptable to changeCan stay calm under pressure in deadline situationsFAA 107 certifiedAbility to assign out daily assignments for staff photographers and coordinate with other editors as needed to prioritizeAbility to coordinate freelance both locally, nationally and occasionally internationallyStrong picture editing skills for selecting daily images and work within our CMS building galleries, using the strongest imagery for daily stories and long term projectsOccasional coaching and supervising photographersBring in depth project story ideas to the tableHave a strong knowledge of the latest industry trendsHave a strong understanding of the new technology to support our staffMust have up-to-date automobile insurance and a valid U.S. state-issued driver’s license.Our teamYou will join an energetic group of colleagues who aspire to the best processes for development that fit our team.
