Amentum is seeking an experienced Innovation Subject Matter Expert (SME) to support Combatant Command Operations in the Information Environment (OIE) under the Apollo program. The Apollo Solutions Architect Team (ASAT) is a cross-functional enterprise team that drives innovation, standardization, and integration across all Apollo Task Order services. ASAT serves as Apollo's dedicated SME cell, delivering scalable support to Combatant Commands through advanced solution design, operational integration, training, analysis, and modernization. Centrally based in Tampa, the ASAT continuously develops and deploys new tools, workflows, and TTPs to outpace adversaries and strengthen Combatant Command information advantage.

As a member of the Apollo Solution Architect Team (ASAT), the selected candidate will identify, evaluate, prototype, and transition innovative concepts, technologies, methodologies, and operational approaches that improve mission effectiveness across the full spectrum of Apollo services. This role leads ASAT's development of the innovation ecosystem, identifying, evaluating, and transitioning emerging technologies into operational use. Supporting all Combatant Commands, this role serves as the principal innovation leader responsible for accelerating adoption of emerging capabilities, improving operational performance, and ensuring commanders benefit from the latest advances in data analytics, artificial intelligence, automation, operational design, information advantage, and mission-support technologies.


As an Innovation SME, you will:

  • Serve as a senior member of the Apollo Solution Architect Team (ASAT), supporting all Combatant Commands and mission partners.
  • Identify emerging technologies, methodologies, processes, and operational concepts that can improve Information Advantage, OIE, IW, operational intelligence, planning, and assessment activities.
  • Analyze Combatant Command requirements, operational challenges, and capability gaps to identify opportunities for innovation and modernization.
  • Design and execute innovation initiatives, pilot programs, prototypes, proof-of-concept efforts, and capability demonstrations.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies including artificial intelligence, machine learning, automation, large language models, knowledge management tools, advanced analytics, visualization platforms, and decision-support systems.
  • Collaborate with Solutions Managers, Solutions Designers, Plans & Operations SMEs, Assessment SMEs, Data Scientists, Knowledge Managers, ISIOs, and operational staffs to develop innovative mission solutions.
  • Support development of future-state operational concepts, innovation roadmaps, modernization strategies, and technology adoption plans.
  • Facilitate innovation workshops, design-thinking sessions, operational experimentation events, ideation forums, and capability-development activities.
  • Assess commercial, government, academic, and defense-industry innovations for applicability to Combatant Command missions.
  • Develop implementation recommendations that balance operational effectiveness, user adoption, risk management, scalability, and affordability.
  • Support integration of innovative solutions across planning, operations, intelligence, assessment, training, knowledge management, and operational intelligence functions.
  • Produce innovation strategies, technology assessments, concept papers, executive briefings, implementation plans, and future capability recommendations.
  • Identify best practices across Combatant Commands and leverage lessons learned to accelerate innovation adoption throughout the Apollo enterprise.
  • Travel (CONUS/OCONUS) to support solution requirements across participating CCMDs.

Required Qualifications

  • Must have an active Secret security clearance.
  • Bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering, Information Systems, Data Analytics, Computer Science, Information Operations, Military Operations, Innovation Management, National Security Studies, Business Transformation, or related discipline.
  • Minimum 11 years of experience supporting innovation initiatives, technology integration, operational modernization, mission engineering, organizational transformation, capability development, or related mission areas.
  • Demonstrated experience identifying, evaluating, and implementing innovative solutions that improve organizational or operational performance.
  • Experience supporting military operations, Combatant Commands, Joint organizations, government modernization programs, or complex mission environments.
  • Strong understanding of OIE, Irregular Warfare, Information Advantage, Information Forces integration, operational intelligence, operational design, and emerging technologies.
  • Experience developing operational concepts, capability roadmaps, implementation plans, innovation strategies, or modernization initiatives.
  • Demonstrated ability to evaluate emerging technologies and determine mission applicability.
  • Experience facilitating workshops, innovation sessions, stakeholder engagements, or collaborative design activities.
  • Strong written, verbal, analytical, facilitation, and executive briefing skills.
  • Ability to transform emerging ideas into practical, actionable mission solutions.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Active Top-Secret security clearance and be SCI eligible. Note: US Citizenship is required to obtain a Top-Secret Clearance.
  • Master's degree in Systems Engineering, Innovation Management, Data Science, Business Administration, National Security Studies, Strategic Studies, Information Systems, or related discipline.
  • Minimum 5 years supporting Combatant Commands, Joint Staff, Service Components, Joint Task Forces, or enterprise-level DoD initiatives.
  • Prior experience as an Innovation Lead, Solutions Architect, Mission Engineer, Transformation Manager, Emerging Technology Lead, Data Analytics Lead, Operational Design Planner, or equivalent role.
  • Experience supporting experimentation campaigns, capability development programs, technology transition efforts, or innovation ecosystems.
  • Experience evaluating and implementing AI/ML capabilities, data analytics platforms, Power BI solutions, automation tools, digital transformation initiatives, or knowledge management environments.
  • Familiarity with Design Thinking, Lean Startup, Agile methodologies, DevSecOps, mission engineering, systems engineering, or operational design frameworks.
  • Experience supporting OIE, IW, Operational Intelligence, PSYOP, Cyber, STO, JEMSO, KLE, Public Affairs, Assessment, Data Analytics, or Information Advantage initiatives.
  • Experience supporting multiple Combatant Commands or enterprise-wide Department of Defense modernization activities.
  • Lean Six Sigma, PMP, Agile, SAFe, Design Thinking, TOGAF, Systems Engineering, or equivalent certifications.Experience working with C2IE (Command and Control of the Information Environment) and/or Maven platforms.
  • Demonstrated experience advising General Officers, Flag Officers, Senior Executive Service personnel, or equivalent leaders regarding innovation investments, modernization priorities, and future capability development.

Compensation Details:

$130,000 - $180,000
