Job Description

The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is seeking Radiological Controls Technicians (RCT) to join our Radiological Operations and Training team!

The RCT is an integral team member performing surveillance of radiological work areas to detect and document the level and type of ionizing radiation/radioactivity in accordance with radiological control regulations. The RCT will perform and document air, water, solid, and surface radioactivity/radiation surveys using instruments designed to detect type and level of activity. The RCT also determines usage and maintenance of nuclear containment apparatus and responds to radiological incidents to ensure employee and environmental safety.

*This position may require work and travel between our Kesselring and Knolls sites, offering you the opportunity to experience different aspects of our operations.

Required Combination of Knowledge and Skill
  • High school diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience; or
  • High school diploma or equivalent and qualification as a Naval Nuclear Propulsion Operator (or commercial nuclear equivalent) and a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience; or
  • High school diploma and RCTQS qualified and 2 years of relevant experience; or
  • Associates degree from an accredited college or university or Journeymans Papers in a related field and 2 years of relevant experience; or
  • Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in a related field.

Preferred Skills
  • Prior experience as an Engineering Laboratory Technician (ELT)
  • Prior experience as a NNPP Article 108 Radiological Controls Technician (RCT)
  • Currently or previously qualified SRCT
  • Qualified contamination worker
  • Active DOE/DOD security clearance

Pay Range
$70,900.00 - $108,500.00 annually
Salary information provided is a general guideline only. Annual salary is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.

FMP employees also have an established presence at numerous shipyards and vendor locations. For nearly 70 years, the Naval Nuclear Laboratory has developed advanced nuclear propulsion technology, provided technical support, and trained world-class nuclear operators to ensure the safe and reliable operation of our nation's submarine and aircraft carrier Fleets. The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is a national asset solely dedicated to the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program. We rely on the dedication and innovation of our nearly 8000 engineers, scientists, technicians, and support personnel.
