A professional who performs these duties is a kitchen exhaust cleaning technician or a hood cleaning specialist. In this career, you often work in a commercial kitchen in a restaurant or food service company. Some technicians also clean residential kitchen exhaust systems. In a food business setting, you isolate the hood by covering surrounding areas with sheeting. You then pressure wash the system and perform manual cleaning if necessary. This a crucial job in the restaurant industry.

What are some common challenges faced in a kitchen exhaust cleaning role, and how can they be managed?

Kitchen Exhaust Cleaning professionals often encounter tight, confined spaces and heavy grease buildup, which can make the job physically demanding and sometimes dirty. Managing these challenges requires proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), adherence to safety protocols, and effective teamwork to ensure thorough cleaning and minimize risks. Additionally, working after business hours or during weekends is common to avoid disrupting kitchen operations, so flexibility with scheduling is important. Regular training and clear communication with kitchen staff can help streamline the process and maintain high safety and cleanliness standards.
