What Does a Kickboxing Instructor Do?

As a kickboxing instructor, you lead a personal or group training program that focuses on kickboxing exercises. While this title generally refers to group fitness trainers, you can also work as a trainer or coach for a sport like Muay Thai. These jobs have very different responsibilities. The minimum qualifications usually include holding a personal trainer or group exercise certification, but many employers expect you to have additional kickboxing certification from a regulated body. You may teach one to three classes a day, so you need excellent physical stamina. You also need a strong knowledge of anatomy and first aid and CPR skills.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Kickboxing Instructor, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Kickboxing Instructor, you need a strong background in kickboxing techniques, physical fitness, and often a recognized certification in group fitness or martial arts instruction. Familiarity with equipment like pads, gloves, and sound systems, as well as CPR/first aid certification, is typically required. Outstanding communication, motivational skills, and the ability to adapt teaching styles to different fitness levels help instructors stand out. These skills ensure safe, engaging, and effective classes that support client progress and satisfaction.

What are some common challenges faced by kickboxing instructors and how can they be managed?

Kickboxing instructors often face challenges such as motivating diverse groups of students, ensuring proper technique to prevent injuries, and adapting workouts to various skill levels. Managing these challenges involves clear communication, ongoing education in fitness and safety, and creating a supportive class environment. Instructors also benefit from staying current with industry trends and fostering a strong sense of community within their classes.

We’re passionate about fitness, motivation, and community — and we’re looking for enthusiastic instructors to join our team!

Position Overview

We are seeking an energetic, engaging Kickboxing Instructor to lead dynamic group classes, motivate members, and ensure an exceptional workout experience. This role is ideal for someone who loves fitness, enjoys connecting with people, and thrives in a fast-paced, upbeat environment.

No fighting or professional kickboxing experience required. We’ll provide training in our class structure and techniques.

Responsibilities

  • Lead high-energy, instructor-led kickboxing classes for participants of all fitness levels.

  • Demonstrate safe and effective kickboxing techniques throughout the workout.

  • Motivate and engage members to keep energy levels high and promote a positive class environment.

  • Provide feedback and encouragement to help members improve their form and fitness.

  • Build relationships with members — making everyone feel welcome, supported, and included.

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and professional studio environment.

  • Be flexible and reliable with scheduling needs (classes Monday through Saturday).

  • Classes are 45 minutes with the expectation the instructor cleans for 15 minutes after

Qualifications

  • Basic understanding of kickboxing movements and techniques (training provided).

  • Friendly, approachable, and able to connect with people of all ages and backgrounds.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Energetic presence and positive attitude.

  • Prior experience in group fitness instruction or coaching is a plus — but not required.

What We Offer

  • Comprehensive training and support in our kickboxing format.

  • Fun, team-oriented environment.

  • Opportunity to inspire and make a real impact in people’s lives.

  • Flexible scheduling (Monday through Saturday availability preferred).
