Job Description and Duties

Under the direction of the Key Accounts Manager of Recruitment, the Key Accounts Specialist is responsible for new business and retailer expansion in the assigned CA Lottery District.

This position requires a current Key Account Specialist exam. If you need to take the exam or if your score has expired, please refer to eligibility requirements.

This position is headquartered at the Costa Mesa District Office. This position is not eligible for telework.

This position may qualify for $250, per month, in GEOGRAPHIC RECRUITMENT AND RETENTION PAY. This is additional pay, not included in the base salary.

Working Conditions

b. Travel: Assigned district travel (driving) to prospect and retail locations is required.

In fiscal year 2024-25, the California Lottery generated sales of more than $9.2 billion with approximately $1.9 billion earned for California public schools. Lottery products are sold at more than 23,000 retail locations throughout the state, from independent neighborhood shops to convenience stores, liquor stores to supermarkets, and more. Retail product offerings include an average of 52 fun and entertaining Scratchers® games and several draw games, including jackpot games such as Powerball®, Mega Millions®, and SuperLotto Plus® and daily games such as Fantasy 5 and Hot Spot®.

In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:

  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing, including experience delivering compelling proposals, reports, and status updates to various audiences.
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills that drive productivity and create sales opportunities.
  • Strong analytical skills. Solid understanding of sales tracking metrics, with the ability to generate, analyze and interpret data.
  • Comprehensive knowledge and professional command of the sales process.
  • Experience using technology (including smartphones, tablets, and computers) to facilitate sales in-office and out in the field.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft suite of programs including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint, and Teams .
  • A background in marketing and advertising; lottery, gaming, entertainment, and fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) preferred.
  • Bilingual skills are desirable, but not require d.
