Overnight SASS Counselor

Job Scope: Works with families and community based systems to provide services including crisis assessment and treatment planning at the time of the assessment. Actively contribute as a team member with on-call crisis response shifts to provide assessment. Clients served are predominately ages 6-24, but can range from age 3 through the lifespan. On call-shifts run on a 24/7 basis, and include evening, weekend, and holiday hours. Bilingual in Spanish is not required, but is preferred
Clinical Responsibilities
  • Provide a full range of crisis screening, assessment, and support services to of clients and their families. These services will include the following:
    • Crisis screenings resulting in hospitalization or deflection
    • Facilitate hospitalization when appropriate
    • Developing a plan to stabilize a client without the use of hospitalization if hospitalization is not necessary
    • Case management services
    • Linkage back to substitute care provider
    • Linkage to community resources as needed
    • Ongoing support to help a client maintain access to established services
    • Post-hospitalization services, which includes gathering information for a mental health assessment and individualized treatment plan
  • Participate as a responsible crisis team member to maintain continuous on-call coverage and to accomplish other team tasks, goals and responsibilities
  • Provide timely and accurate assessments of incoming calls with clinically appropriate dispositions.
  • Determine the need for additional services based on the assessment and facilitate linkage.
  • Participate in consultation, as needed, with other agency professionals or with paid agency consultants.

Education and Experience
  • Bachelors or Masters Degree from an Accredited College or University in Social Work, Psychology, or closely related discipline
  • One to three years experience working with children and adolescents.
  • Valid driver's license, proof of insurance and reliable transportation required.
  • Computer skills required.

Work Environment
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee may work in an office setting
  • Roughly two thirds of the employee's time will be spent in the community, driving to and from hospital sites, schools, and family homes to perform crisis screenings
  • In conducting, screenings and follow ups with the family, an employee may be exposed to varied residential environments based on assigned caseload.

Schedule/Time Keeping
  • Position could be Part-time (28 hours) or Full-time (37.5 hours) depending on desired schedule / program requirements and designation
  • Weekday overnight shifts (8pm-8am)
  • Weekend shift coverage as needed (daytime 8a-8p, overnight 8pm-8am)
