Job description

As one of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA)'s top contractors, ISS is seeking a Junior Web Developer to support National Ocean Service (NOS) office.


Where you will be: This role is hybrid in Silver Spring, MD, with expectations typically being two days per week in the office.


What you will do: Support web development and multimedia support and Website administration. This includes:

  • With direction from the Senior Web Developer, leverage Wordpress for website development, ensuring the new site is secure, accessible, and easy for content managers to publish content.
  • Develop solutions using Wordpress and any current internet technologies for presenting NOS and NOAA scientific information in a compelling and user-friendly manner.
  • Execute the vision of the Senior Web Developer's design and development for one NOS website that effectively communicates National Ocean Service information, science, and imagery to the public using WordPress as the primary content management system.
  • Document technical development of websites so that webmasters can use the documentation for ongoing website support.
  • Manage website developer accounts and publish files to public servers.
  • Support the design, development, and updating of the Ocean Today Kiosk software.
  • Design and produce communication materials.
  • Create original or use existing art or photos to develop new publications or products.
  • Possess and demonstrate knowledge about visual design elements and principles in illustration software.
  • Create original artwork and graphics for posters, flyers, bookmarks, meeting agendas, certificates, advertisements, and other artwork that can be incorporated into web, print, or video media.
  • Export finished files in formats for print, video or web publishing.
  • Work directly with learning staff to develop concepts for animations and design that support content.
  • Create original vector graphics to be used in animations. Assist in adding, processing, and maintaining accountable property within the client's system.


What you bring:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Two (2) years of experience in the area of Information Technology (IT)
  • Strong familiarity with WordPress or similar content management systems.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Experience writing HTML code for the creation and maintenance of websites and various digital content types
  • Skilled at prioritizing multiple concurrent tasks on short deadlines
  • Self-starter
