Position Summary
Twin Maples Specialty seeks an experienced Senior Underwriter to join our Excess Casualty team. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong technical underwriting background, analytical acumen, and the ability to build relationships with brokers and clients. This role is pivotal in delivering profitable underwriting results and sustaining Twin Maples Specialty's reputation for excellence in commercial casualty markets.
Key Responsibilities
  • Evaluate, select, and price new and renewal excess casualty submissions in accordance with company guidelines, authority, and appetite.
  • Analyze account exposures, loss history, and coverage requirements for mid-to-large commercial risks across diverse industry sectors.
  • Design and structure policies, endorsements, and terms tailored to broker and client needs, ensuring compliance with regulatory and company standards.
  • Develop and maintain strong producer relationships, driving growth and retention of a profitable book of business.
  • Collaborate with actuarial, claims, and risk control teams to optimize risk selection and portfolio profitability.
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior underwriters and underwriting assistants.
  • Stay current on market trends, competitor activity, and emerging exposures relevant to excess casualty.
  • Assist leadership in product development, process improvement, and strategic initiatives.
  • Participate in client meetings, industry conferences, and broker events to promote Twin Maples Specialty's brand and capabilities.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree (preferred in business, insurance, or related field).
  • Minimum 5 years of underwriting experience in excess casualty/admitted or non-admitted lines.
  • Demonstrated expertise in assessing complex risks, coverage structures, and account pricing.
  • Strong broker and client management skills with established industry relationships.
  • Excellent analytical, negotiation, and communication skills.
  • Proficiency with rating tools and underwriting systems; comfort with data-driven decision making.
  • Advanced knowledge of market, regulatory, and legal issues impacting the excess casualty segment.
  • CPCU, RPLU, or other related industry designations are a plus.
