What is a junior technical designer?

Junior Technical Designers are entry-level professionals who assist with the technical aspects of designing products, typically in industries like fashion, gaming, or architecture. They work under the supervision of senior designers to create technical drawings, specifications, and prototypes. Their responsibilities often include collaborating with production teams, making adjustments based on feedback, and ensuring that designs meet quality and functionality standards. This role is ideal for recent graduates or those with limited experience who want to develop technical design skills and gain industry knowledge.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a junior technical designer?

To thrive as a Junior Technical Designer, you need a solid understanding of garment construction, pattern making, and technical specifications, often gained through a degree in fashion design or a related field. Familiarity with CAD software, Adobe Illustrator, and PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) systems is typically required. Attention to detail, effective communication, and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams are crucial soft skills. These competencies ensure accurate technical packages, smooth production processes, and high-quality finished products.

What are the main challenges a junior technical designer may face when transitioning from school or internships to a professional studio environment?

One common challenge for Junior Technical Designers entering a studio is adapting to established workflows and collaborative processes, which may differ significantly from academic or internship experiences. • Provide hands-on support (on-site and remote) to airline and MRO customers across North America, ensuring reliable and timely issue resolution
  • Lead technical troubleshooting efforts by applying structured diagnostic approaches across hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems
  • Coordinate complex escalations with engineering teams in Austria, translating field issues into clear technical requirements
  • Take ownership of the full post-sales support process, including installation, commissioning, operator training, and warranty topics
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with customer stakeholders, communicating clearly in time-critical operational environments (e.g., AOG)
  • Support commercial activities by contributing technical expertise during customer visits and identifying service and upgrade opportunities
  • Contribute to documentation, knowledge base development, and continuous improvement of support processes
  • Support the onboarding and mentoring of junior technical staff as the North American team continues to grow

Shape the future with us. We look forward to your application!
