Junior Tax Analyst (Indirect Tax)

About the Opportunity


Our client, a highly respected and rapidly growing company located in Houston's prestigious Galleria area, is seeking a Junior Tax Analyst to join its Corporate Tax team. This is an outstanding opportunity for an ambitious tax professional looking to expand their expertise in indirect tax and build a long-term career within a collaborative and supportive environment.

The ideal candidate will possess a strong foundation in indirect tax compliance and demonstrate a passion for process improvement, tax technology, and cross-functional partnership. This role offers significant visibility across the organization and excellent potential for professional growth and advancement.


Key Responsibilities


  • Coordinate and oversee indirect tax return filings (sales and use tax, gross receipts taxes, and other indirect taxes) prepared by external service providers.
  • Monitor filing processes to ensure timely and accurate compliance with state and federal tax requirements.
  • Identify, recommend, and implement process improvements and internal controls related to indirect tax compliance.
  • Support indirect tax requirements during customer onboarding activities, ensuring proper tax treatment and compliance.
  • Design, document, and maintain indirect tax compliance processes and procedures.
  • Manage and monitor customer and vendor exemption certificates, licenses, and related documentation.
  • Maintain and update tax engine master data to support accurate tax determination and reporting.
  • Partner with Sales, Logistics, Finance, Customer Service, and other departments to address indirect tax compliance questions and operational challenges.
  • Assist with indirect tax audits by gathering documentation, responding to requests, and supporting audit resolution efforts.
  • Stay current on indirect tax regulations and provide recommendations regarding compliance impacts.

Qualifications


Required


  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, Tax, Business, or a related field.
  • 2-5 years of indirect tax experience, including sales and use tax compliance.
  • Experience working with state and local tax filings and compliance requirements.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and tax-related systems.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities in a fast-paced environment.


Preferred


  • Experience working with tax engines and tax automation systems (Vertex, Avalara, SAP, or similar platforms).
  • Exposure to tax audits and exemption certificate management.
  • Experience collaborating with external tax service providers.
  • Public accounting or corporate tax experience.
