Job Title: Structural Engineer (PE) – Industrial ProjectsJob Description

This role leads structural engineering design and supervision for large industrial projects, combining hands-on structural design, project management, and department leadership. The Structural Engineer oversees project design, guides a team of designers and CAD professionals, manages structural calculations and code compliance, and supports business development activities. The position offers a clear path to senior leadership, including potential progression into a VP role and the opportunity to acquire ownership equity over time.

Responsibilities
  • Plan structural engineering work and oversee the preparation of drawings to meet project requirements and design intent.
  • Perform field work, including inspecting plant conditions, verifying existing plant conditions, and collecting data needed for design.
  • Design structural systems and layouts for new equipment to ensure efficient use of space and resources in industrial facilities.
  • Develop structural design concepts for the installation of equipment and supporting structures in industrial environments.
  • Coordinate closely with other engineering disciplines to produce projects that meet design intent while achieving the lowest total installed cost.
  • Verify that detailed designs comply with applicable codes, internal standards, and the original design intent.
  • Lead and manage the workload of direct reports, including designers, CAD professionals, and junior structural engineers.
  • Conduct annual performance reviews for direct reports and contribute to annual raise and compensation calculations.
  • Provide overall design responsibility for all structural work on assigned projects.

  • Apply and interpret applicable structural codes and standards to ensure all designs meet regulatory and safety requirements.
  • Stamp structural drawings for projects in Alabama, Florida, and Georgia in accordance with professional engineering licensure responsibilities.
  • Establish and maintain positive, long-term relationships with clients through regular communication and reliable project delivery.
  • Lead scope development by interfacing with clients to clarify needs, expectations, and project objectives.
  • Communicate project scope requirements clearly to designers and other engineers to ensure alignment and efficient execution.
  • Obtain and evaluate quotes for engineering services, equipment, materials, and construction services as part of project planning.
  • Prepare bid packages, lead bid meetings, and evaluate bids to support informed procurement decisions.
  • Manage procurement and construction activities, coordinating with contractors and vendors to keep projects on schedule and within budget.
  • Coordinate project safety, schedule, and logistics issues with internal teams and external partners.
  • Lead checkout and startup activities to ensure structural elements and associated systems are installed and functioning as designed.
  • Control project documents throughout the project lifecycle and issue final documentation to clients for permanent records.
  • Close out projects in the internal file system to ensure proper documentation, archiving, and knowledge transfer.
  • Participate in bid meetings and site walkdowns with clients to assess project opportunities and requirements.
  • Support internal proposal development by providing technical input, scope definitions, and structural engineering estimates.
  • Contribute to business development efforts by representing the structural discipline in client interactions and proposal activities.
Essential Skills
  • Active Professional Engineer (PE) license with the ability to stamp structural drawings in Alabama, Florida, and Georgia.

Over time, progression into a VP role will require being physically located in Dothan, Alabama to effectively lead the structural engineering function and oversee the local team. The core business operates across Alabama, Florida, Mississippi, and Georgia, with projects focused on large industrial facilities. The position involves close collaboration with designers, CAD professionals, and other engineers, as well as direct oversight of a team that may include multiple designers, CAD specialists, and a junior structural engineer. The work environment relies heavily on digital design tools such as AutoCAD 2D, AutoCAD Plant 3D, STAAD/STAAD.Pro, and Revit, and includes both office-based design work and on-site inspections, walkdowns, and field verification activities.
