Job description

Overview

The Junior Database Administrator (Junior DBA) assists in the administration, maintenance, monitoring, security, and optimization of the organization's enterprise database environments. Working under the guidance of the Database Administrator, this position supports Microsoft SQL Server, MongoDB, and Redis database platforms while developing the knowledge and skills required to independently manage highly available, mission-critical database systems.  The Junior DBA participates in database maintenance, monitoring, backup verification, software installations, troubleshooting, documentation, disaster recovery testing, and application support. This role also assists with the installation, configuration, and maintenance of NextGen Electronic Health Record (EHR) ancillary applications and their associated databases while gaining experience in enterprise database administration.

Responsibilities
  • Assist with the installation, configuration, maintenance, and administration of Microsoft SQL Server databases.
  • Assist in maintaining SQL Server Always On Availability Groups and other high availability technologies.
  • Assist with the administration and monitoring of MongoDB Replica Sets and high availability environments.
  • Assist with the administration and monitoring of Redis databases and replication technologies.
  • Monitor database health, performance, storage utilization, backup status, and system availability.
  • Perform routine database maintenance including index maintenance, integrity checks, statistics updates, and scheduled maintenance tasks.
  • Assist with database upgrades, migrations, software patching, and version lifecycle management.
  • Verify successful completion of database backups and assist with restoration testing.
  • Assist with disaster recovery planning, testing, and documentation.
  • Troubleshoot database performance, connectivity, and application-related issues under the direction of the Database Administrator.
  • Assist with SQL query optimization and indexing improvements.
  • Install, configure, maintain, troubleshoot, and support NextGen EHR ancillary applications and their associated databases.
  • Assist application teams with database deployments and configuration changes.
  • Support SQL Server Agent Jobs, Maintenance Plans, Database Mail, Linked Servers, and reporting environments.
  • Assist in maintaining SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) environments.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation, standard operating procedures, and configuration documentation.
  • Participate in database monitoring and proactive issue identification.
  • Respond to production incidents and assist in restoring database availability.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation as experience and training permit.
  • Continuously develop technical knowledge of enterprise database technologies.
  • Actively supports and complies with all components of the compliance program, including, but not limited to, completion of training and reporting of suspected violations of law and Company policy.
  • Maintains confidentiality of all information; always abides with HIPAA and PHI guidelines.
  • Reacts positively to change and performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems, or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • At least 1 year of experience supporting Microsoft SQL Server or other relational database systems.
  • Basic understanding of SQL Server administration concepts.
  • Basic knowledge of SQL queries and database fundamentals.
  • Familiarity with Windows Server administration.
  • Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to learn new technologies quickly and work collaboratively within a team.
