HDR is currently seeking an Assistant Project Manager for our Building Engineering Services Business Group located in downtown Chicago, IL. Our team is an integrated facility and infrastructure design team consisting of core services of Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, Structural and Site Civil Engineering. With a team of experienced Mission Critical engineers, our local team also focuses on Healthcare, Science and Technology, Justice, Power Distribution, and Transportation projects. We are also developing our market presence in the Commercial Real Estate, Finance, Hospitality, Municipal, Manufacturing/Industrial, and Federal sectors. Regardless of the market sector we provide engineering excellence for our clients by setting realistic expectations and delivering high quality designs, on time.

The Assistant Project Manager is responsible for the execution of HDR's project management tasks including proposal generation, quality control, risk assessment, and on time design deliverable execution. This dynamic individual will be engaged with clients and will require leadership and communication skills that facilitate team collaboration. In this role, you will collaborate with the project PM's to support their efforts. You will need to build strong external client relationships as well as internal bond with the other HDR PMs.  Other responsibilities include participating in marketing and project planning and serving as a representative of HDR to the local industry.  

Travel and extended stay at project site locations is required.

In the role of Assistant Project Manager, we'll count on you to: 
  • Coordinate work of single or multidiscipline teams throughout the project's life cycle (from development and initiation to close-out), while under supervision of a Project Manager
  • Responsible for many aspects of a small project or a single aspect of a larger project
  • Produce and coordinate several projects concurrently
  • Per the client contract requirements, APM's will be required to work from the sites at all times, applicants shall be willing to spend extended periods on site
  • Coordinate staffing and workload through entire project life cycle, and ensure completion of deliverables on schedule
  • Track financial aspects of projects, and coordinate and adjust work effort with team to ensure that work is completed within parameters of agreed-to budget and schedule
  • Work with the Project Manager, Accounting, Operational and Business leadership for periodic project reviews
  • Perform other duties as needed
Preferred Qualifications
  • PMP certification
  • Familiar with Microsoft Office, estimating and scheduling software, project management software
  • Experience designing complex and large-scale healthcare, laboratory, and/or mission critical data center facilities
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in related field
  • 5 years related experience
  • Must have the ability to interact with various design teams, have excellent organizational, project management and communication (both written and verbal) skills
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
