Job description

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
The Senior Software Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, integrating, and supporting enterprise-grade, cloud-enabled software solutions that power critical business processes across the organization. This role provides hands-on technical leadership in building scalable, secure, and highly available systems using modern frameworks, microservices architectures, and cloud-native patterns.
The position emphasizes the use of cloud platforms, containerization, CI/CD automation, and AI-assisted engineering tools to accelerate delivery, improve quality, and increase system reliability. The Senior Software Engineer partners closely with business stakeholders, solution architects, DevOps, QA, and vendors to translate complex requirements into robust technical solutions, while serving as a technical owner and mentor and supporting applications and integrations.
WORKING RELATIONSHIPS:
This position reports to the Sr Director of IT Applications and does not supervise staff. The position works with all Tree Top departments, business partners, vendors, and training service providers.
QUALIFICATIONS FOR ENTRY:
KNOWLEDGE OF:
  • Data processing methods and procedures, and enterprise software systems.
  • Full Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), including requirements analysis, solution design, development, testing, deployment, and ongoing support.
  • System, application, and integration architecture, including API design, middleware, synchronous and asynchronous messaging patterns.
  • Cloud-native and distributed system concepts, including scalability, resiliency, security, and observability.
  • Business process analysis and system interoperability.
  • Business software practices and enterprise integration ecosystems.
  • Pertinent Federal, State, and local laws, codes, and regulations.

ABILITY TO:
  • Design and deliver scalable, secure, and maintainable software solutions aligned with business needs.
  • Apply Java and Spring-based frameworks to build enterprise applications and integrations.
  • Build and consume RESTful and SOAP-based APIs, working with JSON and XML payloads.
  • Contribute effectively within Agile delivery teams, participating in sprint planning, estimation, and retrospectives.
  • Use Jira for work tracking, defect management, and delivery
  • Work within GitHub-based source control workflows, including pull requests, branching strategies, and code reviews.
  • Contribute to and maintain CI/CD pipelines, including automated build, test, and deployment processes using tools such as Jenkins.
  • Leverage AI-assisted development tools (e.g., coding assistants, test generation, refactoring, and documentation tools) to improve productivity, quality, and consistency.
  • Troubleshoot complex production issues across applications and integrations.
  • Communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Provide strong customer service while maintaining confidentiality and data integrity.
  • Think strategically and link technology solutions to organization-wide business outcomes.

EXPERIENCE, CERTIFICATION/LICENSES, AND TRAINING:
Required:
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience designing, developing, and supporting enterprise applications and system integrations across multiple technologies.
  • Containerization, and cloud-native application design.
  • Practical experience applying AI-enabled tools to accelerate software development, testing, and documentation.
  • Experience with cloud services, including
    • Database (Azure Cosmos DB, AWS Aurora, etc.)
    • Messaging (Azure Service Bus, AWS SQS, CloudAMQP, etc.)
    • Serverless (Azure Functions, AWS Lambda, etc.)
    • Containers (Azure Container Apps, AWS ECS, AWS EKS, etc.)
    • API Management (Azure API Management, AWS API Gateway, etc.)
    • Secrets Management (Azure Key Vault, AWS Secrets Manager, etc.)
    • Monitoring (Azure Application Insights, AWS CloudWatch, etc.)

Preferred:
    • Master's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field.
    • Strong experience with Java, Spring (Boot, MVC, Security, Data), and enterprise integration patterns.
    • Experience with Entra ID (Azure AD)
    • Experience with multiple cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, GCP)
    • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins and modern DevOps practices.
    • Hands-on experience using GitHub or similar Git-based platforms.
    • Experience working in Agile environments using Jira.

Pay Information
Salary Range: $114,697 to $183,475 annually
Target Starting Range: $150,000 to $165,000 annually
