The Segall Bryant & Hamill (SBH) fixed income team is seeking a candidate that is eager to develop their skills and knowledge across the fixed income investment discipline. This individual will join our team, contributing their talent and perspective in pursuit of our goal to provide high quality investment solutions for our clients. We anticipate that the success of our clients will in turn provide growth and career enhancement opportunities for all members of our team.


Overview

We're looking for a Junior Fixed Income Trader to join our Fixed Income Team, supporting trading and analysis across investment-grade and high-yield corporate bonds. This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career professional to develop deep expertise in credit markets, issuer fundamentals, portfolio implementation, and relative value trading alongside experienced portfolio managers and traders.


Key Responsibilities

  • Support execution of trades across investment-grade, high-yield corporate bonds, treasuries, and agency MBS, including new issues and secondary market trading
  • Engage with counterparties, share market related color, trading priorities, and views to identify market opportunities and to improve trade execution
  • Interact with Portfolio Managers regarding client and portfolio needs and execute to meet those objectives
  • Assist in credit analysis on issuers and sectors, including spread, ratings, and covenant review
  • Monitor credit spreads, CDS levels, and new issue calendars relevant to portfolio positioning
  • Build and maintain quantitative tools (Python, Excel/Bloomberg) to track total returns, spread duration, and sector/issuer relative value
  • Prepare daily market commentary and portfolio performance summaries for senior PMs
  • Assist with trade settlement, reconciliation, and risk reporting
  • Maintain accurate trade records and support trade settlement processes.


Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, Economics, Math, Accounting or a related quantitative field
  • 0-2 years of experience in fixed income markets, credit trading, or portfolio analytics (internships count)
  • Strong time management and organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple projects on an ongoing basis in a fast-paced changing work environment
  • Effective problem identification, analytical and resolution skills
  • Strong interpersonal, oral, written communication skills
  • Basic proficiency in Excel, and an ability to learn and apply new software programs (Bloomberg, Market Axxess, Tradeweb, Python, etc.). Working knowledge of Python for data analysis is a plus.
  • Solid grasp of fixed income fundamentals (duration, convexity, credit spreads, yield curves); exposure to credit analysis or CDS a plus

Pay Information

This position is exempt and is paid according to the laws of the State of Illinois. The pay range for this position is $75,000-85,000 USD per year. We are required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience.
