Junior Smart Contract Developer information

What types of projects and responsibilities can a junior smart contract developer expect in their first year?

As a Junior Smart Contract Developer, you can expect to work on writing, testing, and deploying smart contracts—typically under the guidance of more senior developers. Early responsibilities often include auditing existing code for security vulnerabilities, updating documentation, and contributing to open-source projects or internal tooling. You’ll also collaborate closely with blockchain engineers, product managers, and sometimes front-end teams to ensure seamless integration of smart contracts with decentralized applications. This role offers excellent opportunities to learn from code reviews, participate in team sprints, and gradually take on more complex tasks as you build expertise.

What is a junior smart contract developer?

Junior Smart Contract Developers are entry-level professionals who specialize in writing, testing, and deploying smart contracts—self-executing programs that run on blockchain platforms like Ethereum. They typically work under the supervision of senior developers, helping to build decentralized applications (dApps), audit code, and ensure the security and efficiency of smart contracts. Junior developers often use programming languages such as Solidity and gain hands-on experience with blockchain development tools. Their role is crucial in supporting projects that rely on secure and reliable automated transactions.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a junior smart contract developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Junior Smart Contract Developer, you need a solid understanding of blockchain fundamentals, programming skills in languages like Solidity, and a relevant degree or coding bootcamp experience. Familiarity with development tools such as Truffle, Hardhat, and version control systems like Git, as well as basic knowledge of Ethereum and Web3.js, is typically required. Attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication help you excel in collaborative and rapidly evolving tech environments. These skills are crucial to ensuring secure, efficient, and reliable smart contract development within blockchain projects.

What is the difference between Junior Smart Contract Developer vs Blockchain Developer?

AspectJunior Smart Contract DeveloperBlockchain Developer
CredentialsBasic understanding of blockchain, smart contract languages (Solidity), coding skillsAdvanced blockchain knowledge, programming skills, sometimes certifications
Work EnvironmentEntry-level, focused on smart contract coding and testingBroader blockchain projects, including infrastructure and application development
Industry UsageCommon in blockchain startups, DeFi, and dApp projectsUsed across various blockchain sectors, including enterprise solutions

The main difference is that a Junior Smart Contract Developer specializes in coding and deploying smart contracts, while a Blockchain Developer has a broader role that includes developing entire blockchain applications and infrastructure. The Junior Smart Contract Developer role is more focused and entry-level, whereas Blockchain Developers work on comprehensive blockchain solutions.

Salary range: Senior level: 150,000 - 200,000 USD. Note: Final level, team assignment, and compensation are determined during the interview process based on experience and fit.

About the Role

We're looking for a Senior Full Stack Engineer to own critical pieces of our Web3 infrastructure, from payments systems and digital wallets to minting frameworks and decentralized applications. You'll work across the entire stack, building advanced APIs, distributed backend services, and front‑end interfaces that power next‑generation blockchain products.

What You Will Do
  • Design and deliver secure, scalable crypto and Web3 systems, with deep ownership of payments infrastructure, digital wallets, minting frameworks, and decentralized applications.
  • Build advanced APIs, distributed backend services, and complex front‑end interfaces that drive next‑generation user experiences across blockchain‑enabled products.
  • Lead architectural decision‑making for new features and core systems, collaborating with Product and Engineering teams to align design choices with long‑term technical and business strategies.
  • Establish technical standards for full‑stack development, promoting best practices around performance optimization, security, reliability and maintainability.
  • Mentor junior and mid‑level engineers through code reviews, technical deep dives and informal coaching to elevate overall team expertise.
  • Optimize production systems by profiling and debugging large‑scale distributed applications, improving system performance and enabling higher throughput and availability.
  • Write technical documentation and contribute to knowledge‑sharing efforts to support rapid scaling and long‑term sustainability of the codebase.
  • Drive end‑to‑end technical design reviews and make critical architectural decisions that balance scalability, security and long‑term maintainability across multiple products.
  • Conduct in‑depth performance profiling, threat modeling and security audits of decentralized applications and smart contracts to ensure robustness at scale.
What We Are Looking For
  • Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science or a related field, and three years of experience in a Software Engineering or related occupation.
  • Alternatively, a Master’s degree or foreign equivalent and one year of experience.
  • At least one year of experience in TypeScript, NestJS, APIs, blockchain data processing, Solidity smart contracts, blockchain infrastructure components (indexers, event listeners, data pipelines), distributed systems reliability, monitoring and observability.
  • Design and deploy monitoring, observability and fault‑tolerant solutions to ensure system resilience at scale.
  • Deliver highly reliable, maintainable production code with measurable improvements in scalability, uptime and performance across distributed systems.
Benefits
  • Access to leading AI tools and subscriptions, with AI actively encouraged and integrated into daily workflows.
  • Stock options program.
  • Two performance reviews annually.
  • Unlimited, flexible PTO.
  • Flexible work schedule.
  • Company laptop and allowance for necessary home equipment.
  • Daily stipend for commuting to the office.
  • Company‑paid trips for annual off‑sites and on‑sites.
  • Insurance covered by Crossmint.
  • 401(k) Plan.
