Guarantee Trust Life Insurance Company (GTL) is currently seeking a Temporary Jr. Underwriterto join our team! The anticipated duration of the role would be through the end of September 2026.

This position is required to work on-site in our Chicagoland (Glenview, IL) office. We offer half-day Fridays - every Friday!
This individual will be part of an underwriting team focused on making sound decisions in helping achieve GTL's growth and profitability goals while providing exemplary service to our agents and policyholders. The key responsibility for this role is to analyze applications for health and life insurance by following established underwriting protocols and guidelines to ensure consistency with sound risk management principles.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Learn the underwriting processes associated with various GTL products and gain familiarity with the underwriting tools commonly employed.
  • Assess applications to ensure information provided is complete and correct.
  • Analyze information associated with each application to assess acceptability of risk in accordance with company protocols and guidelines. Request additional underwriting information as appropriate.
  • Act promptly while exercising sound, objective and consistent judgment in making underwriting decisions.
  • Provide support and communications, written and verbal, to sales and customer service personnel to keep them updated on application status.
  • Comply with insurance regulations as they relate to risk classification.
  • Treat underwriting information with the utmost confidentiality and use it solely for the purposes of evaluating and classifying the risk.

Education and Skills:
  • Two or more years of relevant or transferrable experience, associate degree or higher is a plus
  • Ability to work well within a team and efficiently manage multiple priorities
  • Strong communication, organizational, and analytical skills, critical thinking
  • Capacity for assimilating multiple sources of information and succeeding in a fast-paced setting
  • Underwriting experience or familiarity with medical terminology is a plus
  • Pay range for this role is $27-33 per hour, commensurate with experience

The pay range provided is not a guarantee of compensation. The range reflects potential pay for the job grade for this role at the time of this posting. Compensation will depend on several factors such as specific competencies, relevant education and experience, qualifications, and industry certifications. Compensation ranges are subject to change and may be higher or lower than the range described above.
