Job description
Koniag Energy & Water is seeking a Security & Communications Junior Project Manager to support field projects involving video surveillance, associated networking, communications infrastructure, tower work, and physical security systems. Working under the guidance of experienced project and company leadership, this role assists with project execution from turnover or award through testing, customer acceptance, and closeout while learning KEW project-management practices and technical requirements.
This is a developmental, hands-on opportunity for a motivated candidate with strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills. Prior project-management or people-management experience is not required. The successful candidate will learn on the job, take on increasing responsibility as proficiency develops, and help maintain control of safety, scope, schedule, cost, documentation, and customer expectations.

- Assist with security, surveillance, communications, networking, tower, and related low-voltage or electrical projects from planning through customer acceptance and closeout.
- Learn to develop and maintain execution plans, budgets, schedules, labor forecasts, procurement plans, site logistics, submittal logs, testing plans, risk registers, and closeout plans.
- Review contracts, drawings, specifications, estimates, proposals, and customer requests with guidance; help identify scope gaps, system-interface issues, technical concerns, and commercial risk.
- Coordinate with technicians, tower crews, electricians, engineers, vendors, and subcontractors to help ensure access, equipment, materials, tools, prerequisites, and information are available.
- Assist with tracking committed cost, labor productivity, percent complete, cost to complete, forecast at completion, billing status, change exposure, and gross-margin risk; promptly elevate questions or variances.
- Prepare and maintain RFIs, submittals, equipment approvals, procurement records, long-lead-item tracking, change documentation, field records, customer decisions, and turnover documents.
- Support planning and issue resolution for IP cameras, video management systems, network switches, copper and fiber cabling, wireless links, power and grounding, equipment enclosures, access control, intrusion detection, intercom or communications systems, and system integration.
- Assist with coordination of tower and elevated work, including qualified resources, rescue and safety planning, access, lifting or rigging, weather constraints, inspections, and site-specific requirements.
- Participate in project and customer meetings; document decisions, action owners, due dates, testing requirements, outages, cutovers, and acceptance criteria, and follow up on assigned actions.
- Help plan Alaska and remote-site mobilization, lodging, freight, badging, escorts, operational constraints, and coordination with owners and other contractors.
- Assist in verifying that systems are installed, labeled, configured, tested, documented, and turned over in accordance with approved design and customer requirements.
- Follow and promote safety, cybersecurity, quality, licensing, customer, and regulatory requirements applicable to each project.
- Build productive client and team relationships and support estimates, proposals, site walks, lessons learned, and follow-on opportunities when requested.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Demonstrated ability to learn new technical and business processes, accept coaching, and take on increasing responsibility. Prior project-management or people-management experience is not required.
- Strong written, verbal, organizational, customer-service, and problem-solving skills, with careful attention to detail and follow-through.
- Ability to organize multiple assignments, maintain accurate records, meet deadlines, and promptly communicate questions, risks, or changing priorities.
- Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office and the ability to learn project scheduling, cost-control, and document-management tools.
- Interest in learning field construction, IP-based security systems, communications, networking, and project financial fundamentals.
- Valid driver license and ability to satisfy customer-site access, background-check, and drug-testing requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate or bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering, information technology, business, or a related field, or relevant training and experience.
- One to three years of experience in construction, low-voltage systems, electronic security, communications, networking, project coordination, field service, logistics, or a related environment.
- Exposure to IP video surveillance, access control, intrusion systems, structured cabling, fiber, wireless communications, power and grounding, or construction drawings and specifications.
- Experience supporting field crews, subcontractors, procurement, scheduling, customer communication, documentation, or project closeout.
- Familiarity with enterprise video management, physical-security, or networking platforms such as Genetec, Milestone, Avigilon, LenelS2, Cisco, Aruba, Juniper, Fortinet, Moxa, Hirschmann, or similar technologies.
- Familiarity with Windows Server, SQL databases, storage infrastructure, cloud-managed security systems, cybersecurity concepts, or hybrid architectures.
- Exposure to tower construction, antenna or radio installations, elevated work, remote communications sites, or field-safety planning.
- Alaska remote-site, oil and gas, utility, transportation, government, or critical-infrastructure experience.
- Entry-level or in-progress industry credential, manufacturer training, NICET, BICSI, networking, tower-safety, CAPM, or other relevant certification.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements
This role works in both office and active field environments. Regular travel to Alaska project sites is expected and may include remote locations, rooftops or tower sites, operating facilities, outdoor work, uneven terrain, stairs and ladders, and exposure to weather and noise. The employee must be able to use standard office equipment, wear required personal protective equipment, and occasionally lift or move up to 25 pounds. The Junior Project Manager may help coordinate elevated work but is not expected to climb unless separately qualified, medically cleared, trained, and assigned. Extended hours may be required during mobilization, outages, cutovers, testing, or critical project activities.
