ASSOCIATE / JUNIOR PRODUCT ENGINEER
Long Island City, NY

As a Product Engineer, you will be responsible for all aspects of technical support and product approval relating to electro-mechanical and electronic automotive parts which are developed by company’s network of suppliers.

Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Research and evaluate automotive products for operational and aesthetic acceptability.
  • Research part operation, specifications, and working environment.
  • Develop test requirements, protocols, and test set-ups. Design fixtures as needed.
  • Evaluate and document product test results and findings.
  • Recommend product performance corrections or improvements to suppliers.
  • Communicate requirements and findings with buyers, suppliers, and other departments.
  • Update files and/or records in multiple systems to concisely reflect status and outcome of evaluations.
  • Handling other related functions as directed by supervisor.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • AAS or BS degree in automotive, mechanical, or electrical / electronic engineering.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Highly organized with good documentation skills.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects in parallel.
  • Ability to work in a laboratory environment.
  • General knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.

Preferred:

  • Experience in automotive or repair industry.
  • Ability to read vehicle schematics.
  • Understanding of electronics, sensors, automotive systems, computer systems, and theory of internal combustion engines.
  • Experience in automotive diagnostics, testing, and repair.
  • Knowledge of electrical diagnostic equipment including oscilloscopes, meters, and other test devices.
  • Ability to remove and install components in a vehicle.
  • Ability to operate scanners and other vehicle diagnostic devices.

ADA Requirements:

  • Medium work: Exerting up to fifty pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
  • Close visual acuity to perform an activity such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; reviewing detailed information; viewing a computer terminal; and expansive reading.
  • Ability to work for extended periods sitting and looking at computer while completing repetitive motions to include substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
  • The ability to manage a number of projects at one time with frequent interruptions and tight deadlines.
  • Stooping, Kneeling, Crouching, Crawling, Reaching, Standing, Walking, Pushing, Pulling, Lifting, Fingering, Grasping, Feeling, Talking, and Hearing.

The estimated salary range for this position is $75,000 - $85,000.
