Job description

Greenfield Engineering, a Saalex Company is seeking a Junior Mission Planning Engineer in Patuxent River, MD. The Junior Mission Planning Engineer supports the integration, sustainment, and operational use of mission planning systems across Naval Aviation platforms. Working under the guidance of senior engineers and program teams, the incumbent assists with software integration, testing, and operational support activities to ensure mission planning capabilities meet fleet requirements.

Position Type: Full-Time

Salary: $65k-$95k annually (depending on experience)
Work Location: Hybrid remote/in-office. (see onsite requirements below)

**On-site Requirements: This position requires the ability to work onsite at Patuxent River, MD 60%+ of the time.

Essential Functions:

  • Mission Planning Systems Engineering
    • Assist with integration, sustainment, and testing of mission planning systems across multiple platforms
    • Support lifecycle activities from development through operational use
  • Software Integration & Evaluation
    • Support evaluation of mission planning software functionality and interfaces
    • Assist in assessing system performance and operational suitability
  • Certification & Compliance Support
    • Assist in mission planning certification activities
    • Support verification and validation (V&V) efforts and documentation development
  • Operational Support
    • Support fleet users and platform teams with mission planning issues
    • Assist in troubleshooting system errors and supporting operational workflows
  • Mission Data Management
    • Assist with mission data loading, configuration management, and distribution processes
    • Support mission planning workflows and system configuration tracking
  • Coordination & Collaboration
    • Work within cross-functional teams including engineering, program offices, and operational units
    • Support coordination with software developers and system stakeholders
    • Other duties as assigned or required

Requirements

Required:

  • Exposure to mission planning systems (e.g., JMPS, VMPS, NOMS) through academic, military, or professional experience
  • Basic understanding of:
    • Systems engineering principles
    • Software integration and testing concepts
    • Requirements and configuration management
  • Understanding of aviation or mission planning concepts
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Ability to learn and operate in a fast-paced engineering environment

Desired:

  • Internship or early-career experience supporting mission planning or aviation systems
  • Exposure to DoD or Naval Aviation environments
  • Familiarity with mission data workflows or flight planning tools

Education/Years of Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Systems Engineering required and 0–3 years (internships/co-ops applicable) experience.

Security Clearance:

Active Secret clearance required. Requirements to obtain a clearance include US Citizenship, security investigation, etc.
