Job description

All 5’s Construction is seeking an Estimator to join our Specialties team in Reno, NV!

An All 5’s Specialties Estimator is primarily responsible for the coordination of all aspects of proposals including the budget/estimate in adherence to the contract documents, labor, logistics and project schedule to ensure the success of the project. The Estimator reports to the Chief Estimator and oversees any Junior Estimators.

A successful candidate in this role: 

  • Delegates and reviews all contract documents including structural, architectural, civil, landscape, mechanical, plumbing, and electrical plans along with specifications and soils reports.
  • Prepares quantity surveys ensuring a complete and qualified scope.
  • Ensures that suppliers are contacted in a timely manner and reviews quotations for current pricing.
  • Evaluates equipment quotations from vendors.
  • Participates in meetings with the project team to review preliminary estimates and discuss production rates and formwork systems. Leads all required inter-department meetings and hand-offs as related to assigned projects.
  • Reviews and approves the estimate labor productions, equipment productions, materials, and sub-contractor pricing with the Chief Estimator.
  • Finalizes estimate in job-cost format ready for insertion into project accounting system to track actual production rates.
  • Maintains cost/production history database and specialties database within estimating program system, ensure that it is updated by Project Estimators as is necessary.
  • Builds and maintains solid working relationships with clients, peers, subcontractors, and suppliers.
  • Conducts an initial plan review, participates in the project kickoff meeting, and develops a thorough understanding of the project.
  • Reviews the Prime Contract in its entirety and ensures that all requirements and obligations are understood and addressed with project controls, documentation, procedures, etc.
  • Develops the project chart of accounts with cost codes (using standard cost codes).
  • Creates Master Project Schedule and ensures all material deliveries, change orders, and other project milestones are adjusted accordingly to adhere to schedule. Informs project team on all schedule changes.
  • Creates and executes Purchase Orders and Purchase Order log according to standard operating procedures.
  • Conducts ongoing plan reviews of all document revisions, bulletins, and deltas. Maintains a thorough understanding of project documents.
  • Prepares safety plan in coordination with Field Safety Manager, leads by example in adhering to safety plan, and implements safety procedures throughout entire project duration.
  • Assumes responsibility for managing all costs, budgets, billings, and financials on the project. Reports costs to the VP of Operations (and in some cases client) monthly according to the standard cost reporting procedures.
  • Manages closeout of all subcontractor contracts according to standard procedures.
  • Supervises and develops direct reports on the preconstruction team while collaborating cohesively with all operation team members.
  • Stays apprised of new construction products and methods as the construction industry moves forward.
  • Attends trainings and industry related events to obtain and bring innovation into the company.
  • Performs other duties that may not be listed here but are part of assigned responsibilities.

  • 3-7 years of relevant experience working in the construction industry.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience of estimating experience.
  • High school diploma required.
  • Degree in Construction Management or a related field, or a combination of relative construction experience and education.
  • OSHA 10 or 30 Certification is a plus.
  • Ability to work at a fast pace within time constraints while keeping professional composure and ensuring timely follow up as necessary.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with high attention to detail.
  • Good interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing to team members, clients, and vendors, including the ability to read and interpret drawings and specs.
  • Exceptional skills with Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word).
  • Fluency in reading, quantifying and analyzing construction drawings.
  • Exposure or experience with Software For Hardware or other related specialty programs.
  • Desire to teach and mentor Junior Estimators, Project Engineers, and Field employees for the growth and future success of the company.
  • Positive attitude and eagerness to embrace new technology and tools in the industry.
