Junior Network Operations Engineers often encounter challenges such as quickly troubleshooting unfamiliar network issues, adapting to 24/7 shift rotations, and managing the pressure of responding to critical incidents. To overcome these challenges, new engineers should actively seek mentorship from experienced team members, regularly review network documentation, and participate in on-the-job training sessions. Building strong communication skills is also key, as this role frequently involves collaborating with other IT teams to resolve problems efficiently.

  • Troubleshoot from Layer 7 backward through the full network stack, particularly in undocumented environments.

  • Maintain thorough documentation of designs, decisions, and operational procedures.
Required Qualifications
Experience:
  • Minimum 8 years of experience supporting large enterprise multi-cloud hybrid network stacks.
  • Experience with both ITSM and Agile project management methodologies.
  • Ability to operate as a self-directed individual while leading borrowed resources on larger initiatives.

Technical Skills:
  • Deep understanding of DNS architecture, resolution, and troubleshooting.

  • Understanding of high availability designs (VRRP, HSRP) and active/passive and active/active failover.
  • Proficiency with Python, Bash, Ansible, Terraform, GitOps workflows, and GitHub Actions.
  • Experience with secrets management across HashiCorp Vault, Azure KeyVault, and/or AWS Secrets Manager.
  • Proficiency with Wireshark for packet capture analysis and the ability to interpret browser HAR files.

Professional Skills:
  • Demonstrated ability to take abstract or ambiguous requirements and develop detailed execution plans.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present technical topics to non-technical audiences.

Preferred Qualifications
  • F5 BIG-IP or equivalent Application Delivery Controller (ADC) experience.
