Job description

Summary:
The role of Machinist III involves expert-level responsibilities in adhering to all company HSEQ processes and procedures, reviewing and comprehending complex part drawings, and performing setup and operation of turning and milling equipment for critical tasks. Responsibilities include operating a 4-Jaw "Independent Chuck," band saw, and drill press, polishing various valve parts to manufacturer specifications, and roughing out in-house fabricated parts. The role also requires machining flanges to within ASME 16.50 specifications, drilling and tapping holes, and having knowledge of advanced measuring tools such as calipers, dial indicators, tape measures, and thread gauges. Additionally, there is an advanced learning component for various measuring instruments, including micrometers, last word indicators, PMI guns,, thread measurement devices, and veneers, along with mentoring junior machinists.
Responsibilities:
  • All Additional Job Responsibilities of a Machinist I & II
  • Support Machinist I & II employees through mentoring and/or on-the-job (OJT) training
  • Perform final quality inspection on all machined components and equipment
  • Determine machining requirements for complex projects
  • Potentially assume role as Field Supervisor
  • Assisting with machine shop consumables inventory
  • Fabricate drawings from sample parts

Positional Requirements & Qualifications:
Education & Experience
  • HS Education or GED Equivalent a plus
  • Machinist degree preferred
  • 3+ years industry experience

Skills & Abilities
  • Meets all Machinist I & II qualifications and requirements
  • Proficient in Machinist I & II responsibilities
  • Minimum of 3 years as a certified Machinist
  • Experienced trainer of Level I & II Machinists
  • Proficient in advanced machining techniques and standards
  • Working knowledge and proficiency of machining metallurgy
  • Knowledge and understanding of material selection
  • Ability to read and understand technical drawings
  • Understanding of shop math and machining costs
  • Ability to organize and manage multiple tasks
  • Basic OSHA and TWIC card (TWIC, only if required)
  • Ability to manage people
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated "can do" attitude and excellent customer service skills
  • Must be able to travel and have a clear driving record in accordance with company driving guidelines
  • Clear background check and drug/alcohol screening

Essential Physical Functions
  • Lifting: up to 50 pounds
  • Adjusting or moving objects up to 50 pounds in all directions
  • Lift and carry: 50 pounds for 100 feet
  • Bending, stooping, walking and climbing stairs
  • Able to pass periodic medical evaluations and respirator fit tests to ensure continued compliance with OSHA standards.
