Sr. Automation Engineer (UI) - API & UI Test Automation | 100% REMOTE | Apex Systems @ U.S. Bank
About the Role
Join U.S. Bank's digital transformation as a Sr. Automation Engineer (UI) in a high-impact, exclusive consulting opportunity with Apex Systems. Drive quality across mission-critical API and UI systems, leveraging cutting-edge automation tools and collaborating with a diverse, agile team-all in a fully remote environment. This role is ideal for experienced SDETs passionate about robust engineering and eager to mentor others, with direct exposure to large-scale financial platforms.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain advanced automated test suites for APIs and UI using Playwright and JavaScript/TypeScript.
- Lead contract testing, security validation, and backend integration for Embedded Finance APIs, internal services, and mainframe systems.
- Champion Behavior Driven Development (BDD) with Cucumber/Gherkin for clear, business-aligned test scenarios.
- Validate backend processes and business logic for mainframe and modern digital platforms using SSHLibrary and CLI wrappers.
- Collaborate closely with developers, architects, and QA leads to ensure testable service contracts and catch defects early in the SDLC.
- Integrate automation into CI/CD pipelines with Jenkins, GitHub Actions, and Azure DevOps.
- Mentor and guide mid-level and junior engineers, shaping best practices and reusable test libraries.
- Drive continuous improvement, participate in sprint ceremonies, and contribute to quality governance.
Required Skills and Experience
- 7-10 years' experience in test automation, specializing in API and backend testing, UI test automation.
- Expert in Playwright + JavaScript, or RestAssured with Java, Cypress, or TestCafe with rapid adaptability to Playwright.
- Deep knowledge of REST API concepts, contract testing, and advanced backend data validation.
- Proficient in BDD frameworks (Cucumber/Gherkin).
- Skilled with backend validation using SSHLibrary and CLI wrappers (Python/Java).
- Experience integrating automation with CI/CD tools (Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps).
- Strong Object-Oriented Programming and data structure skills.
- Proven collaboration and mentorship capabilities in Agile/Scrum teams.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with mainframe systems and secure CLI-based validation.
- Financial services or regulated industry background.
- Familiarity with TDP (Test Data Portal), Robot Framework, Allure, ReportPortal, Power BI dashboards.
