POSITION SUMMARY

CVS Health Digital is looking for hands‑on, passionate people who want to join a high‑energy and growing team to make a difference in customers' lives and who want to be on the forefront of digital innovation that aims to reinvent what a pharmacy and a health‑care company can be in the digital world. Currently, we are seeking a Senior Software Development Engineer with deep expertise in Java/JEE, Spring Boot, RESTful microservices, and Kafka to lead the design and development of scalable, secure cloud‑native solutions. This role requires hands‑on experience with Data Migration, ETL pipelines, and data management best practices, ideally in a Healthcare/EHR integration context.

The ideal candidate brings strong engineering rigor, leadership presence, architectural insight, and a modern SecDevOps mindset.

Experience with GCP and healthcare data standards (HL7, FHIR) is highly preferred.

Expectations for the Role Software Engineering & Architecture
  • Architect, design, and develop high‑performance microservices using Java, JEE, Spring Boot, and Spring Cloud
  • Lead development of event‑driven services using Apache Kafka (producers, consumers, streaming patterns, schema evolution)
  • Own API strategy for RESTful services, ensuring consistent JSON modeling, backward‑compatible versioning, and strong API governance
  • Mentor team members and contribute to engineering standards, design reviews, and coding best practices
Data Migration, ETL, and Data Management
  • Design and implement ETL pipelines for structured/unstructured data using tools such as Python‑based pipelines, Spring Batch, or cloud‑native ETL frameworks
  • Lead data migration efforts for legacy‑to‑cloud or system‑to‑system transitions (incremental loads, bulk loads, validation, reconciliation)
  • Establish data quality, profiling, and governance practices
  • Work with clinical data formats, mapping, transformations, and normalization (FHIR resources, HL7 v2 segments, CCD/C‑CDA documents)
Cloud, DevOps & SecDevOps
  • Build and maintain CI/CD automation (unit tests, integration tests, SAST/DAST, artifact provenance, policy gates)
  • Deploy and operate services on Google Cloud Platform (GCP) using GKE, Cloud Run, Cloud Build, Cloud SQL, Pub/Sub, IAM, Secret Manager, etc
  • Drive SecDevOps practices: threat modeling, secure coding, dependency scanning, secrets management, container hardening
  • Implement observability frameworks (OpenTelemetry, tracing, dashboards, alerts, SLOs)
Healthcare/EHR Integration
  • Integrate microservices with EHR systems using HL7 v2, FHIR, SMART on FHIR, and standard healthcare APIs.
  • Support workflows across patient data exchange, interoperability, and HIPAA‑aligned data flows.
  • Collaborate with compliance and security teams to implement regulatory safeguards.
Required Qualifications
  • 5+ years of professional software engineering experience
  • 5+ years with developing applications within Java/JEE, Spring Boot, Spring Cloud, RESTful microservices
  • 3+ years of Apache Kafka (event streaming, partitions, consumer groups, schema registry)
  • 3+ years CI/CD pipelines, Git workflows, automated testing
  • 3+ years Docker, Kubernetes, Cloud orchestration
  • 2+ years of hands‑on experience with Cloud (GCP, AWS, Azure)
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with FHIR, HL7 v2, and EHR integrations (Epic, Cerner, MEDITECH, etc.)
  • Experience with GCP (GKE/Cloud Run, Cloud Build, IAM, logging/monitoring)
  • Experience in large‑scale system modernization or data platform migration
  • Solid knowledge of Data Migration, ETL concepts, and data lifecycle management
  • Strong understanding of security best practices (OAuth 2.0/OIDC, TLS, secrets mgmt, scanning)
  • Proven ability to lead complex technical initiatives and mentor junior developers
  • Experience with Spring Batch, Dataflow, or cloud‑native ETL tools
  • Knowledge of SQL/NoSQL, schema design, indexing, performance tuning, migrations
  • Knowledge of HIPAA, HITRUST, or regulated healthcare data environments

Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience (HS diploma + 4 years relevant experience)

Pay Range

Typical pay range for this role is: $83,430.00 - $222,480.00. The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors. This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short‑term incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above.
