Job description

Senior Applications Support Engineer (Java/SaaS)
Location: AWG Support Center - 5000 Kansas Ave
Department: IT
Are you a master of troubleshooting, incident management, and system stability? At AWG we are moving towards running our Retail operations on top-tier SaaS and enterprise products. We are currently midway through a significant technology modernization, transitioning from legacy COBOL-based systems to a modern, integrated environment. As a Senior Application Support Engineer, you are a critical technical anchor for this hybrid ecosystem. This is a support-centric role where your primary mission is to ensure operational continuity. You will act as a functional lead for high-priority production incidents, maintaining the health of our evolving environment and using your Java expertise to fix, patch, and optimize the custom integrations that keep our systems running.
Key Responsibilities
  • SaaS Ecosystem Maintenance: You will monitor the health of our integrated SaaS platforms, manage vendor-related issues, and ensure that our custom integration layers remain stable and secure.
  • Java Patching & Enhancement: When our vendor products or modernization efforts require customization or integration fixes, you will jump into the code. Deliver high-quality Java/MFT patches, bug fixes, and maintenance enhancements.
  • System Stability & Reliability: Proactively identify recurring pain points and performance bottlenecks. Use your SQL skills to analyze logs, optimize queries, and automate routine support tasks to prevent future system downtime.
  • Technical Stewardship: Review peer changes with a focus on safe deployment and regression testing. You are responsible for ensuring that all support activities maintain the integrity of our production environment.

Technical Requirements
  • Java/Spring Proficiency: 3+ years of Java/Spring Boot experience. Your strength should be in navigating, debugging, and patching existing codebases, rather than development.
  • Integration Troubleshooting: Experience debugging, web services, and file-transfer processes. You should be adept at determining whether an issue lies within a SaaS vendor's platform, our integration layer, or legacy systems.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Specialized Systems: Experience with Java batch (JBeret), IBM App Connect (ACE), or file-transfer software (e.g., Cleo Harmony).

Why Join Us?
  • Be the Expert: Your role is vital. You aren't just one of many developers; you are the technical expert who ensures our business stays running.
  • Be at the Center of Transformation: You will be instrumental in supporting our Retail domain as we modernize our tech stack, gaining valuable experience in maintaining the bridge between legacy architecture and modern SaaS solutions.
