Position Summary

The Assistant Program Coordinator Trainee (APCT) is a trainee level appointment working under the lead direction of the MLK Program Coordinator/Student Academic Success Counselor and with close supervision of the Director.  During the trainee period, which is not to exceed 12 months, the APCT is expected to develop and demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities to function under general supervision at the SSP IB working level. 

The incumbent assists the Program Coordinator through clearly defined efforts to deliver integrated support services and programming aimed at improving students' academic success, leadership, professional development, retention, and enrichment of the overall student experience.

This position will serve as a mentor and advisor to students. In addition, the APCT will work with interns and student assistants to support staff who design and deliver programs for graduate and/or undergraduate students to promote and raise awareness around student excellence through events/programs, written materials and representation on campus-wide committees. 

FLSA: Non-Exempt (eligible for overtime compensation)

Anticipated Hiring Range: $4,150 per month. Anticipated hire is at the minimum of the classification salary range.

Time Base: Full-Time

Work Hours: Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. with occasional evenings and weekends dependent on department need.

Minimum Qualifications 

Knowledge and Abilities:

Working knowledge of the basic principles of individual and group behavior; research and observation techniques for the purpose of recording, classifying, and interpreting factual information; and the techniques and methods of interviewing. Ability to gather and analyze data; reason logically, draw valid conclusions and make appropriate recommendations; participate in and contribute to group meetings, conferences and interviews; clearly express ideas and recommendations orally; write clear and concise reports; and establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, staff and faculty.

Education:

Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration or a jobrelated field. Specialized experience during which the applicant has acquired and successfully applied the knowledge and abilities shown above may be substituted for the required education on a yearforyear basis
