Job description

Who are we looking for?   A junior electrical Technologist with an affinity for delivering on the electrical components of roadways, bridges, transitways, municipal and/or county arterial roads, side streets, multi-use pathways and parking facilities.

Working with an energetic and hard-working team, this position offers a variety of work and will see you involved in: 

  • Be part of electrical project team and support the electrical discipline in multidisciplinary projects.
  • Perform lighting calculation software (Autolux & AGI 32), loading calculations, short circuit calculations, voltage drop calculations and Arc Flash Analysis calculations
  • Assist the Lead designer with traffic signal design, lighting design & intelligent transportation system design
  • Assist the Engineer with the preparation of contract documents and quantity take-off
  • Ensuring timely delivery of assigned tasks
  • Carrying out quality checks and complying with internal procedures
  • Assisting senior staff with technical tasks and the day-to-day operation of the office
  • Coordination and liaison with approving authorities, utility companies and outside design team members

Responsibilities

  • Equipment Installation: Help to install complex systems and conduct inspections of equipment with guidance.
  • Project Management: Support others by carrying out a range of project management activities.
  • Personal Capability Building: Develop own capabilities by participating in assessment and development planning activities as well as formal and informal training and coaching. Develop and maintain an understanding of relevant technology, external regulation, and industry best practices through ongoing education, attending conferences, and reading specialist media.
  • Product and Solution Development: Support others by carrying out a range of product development and engineering activities, such as analyzing client situations or interpreting data.
  • Solutions Analysis: Find the most effective ways to respond to routine functional inquiries. Involves following procedures and precedents.
  • Data Collection and Analysis: Produce accurate reports for others by collecting data from a variety of standard sources and inputting it into standard formats.
  • Insights and Reporting: Extract and combine data to generate standard reports.
  • Plant and Machinery Maintenance and Repair: Maintain and repair plant and machinery under supervision to ensure that operational requirements are met, including conformance with regulatory and organizational health, safety, and environmental standards.
  • Work Scheduling and Allocation: Design own monthly schedule and, if necessary, assign work to others in order to speed up office workflow and ensure high-priority tasks get done.
  • Testing: Develop testing standards and procedures under the direction of professional colleagues.

What you will bring to the team:

  • 3-5 years' experience in the design and/or construction of highway electrical, lighting, Traffic Signals and ITS with an engineering consultant firm
  • College diploma in Electrical Engineering Technology
  • Excellent knowledge of AutoCAD and MicroStation environments
  • Excellent computer skills (MS Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Prior experience working on municipal and/or MTO projects are highly desirable
  • Knowledge of OPS, OESC, CSA, IES, TAC and OTM publications and standards
  • Self-motivated and quick learner
  • Able to multitask in a fast pace environment
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal and communication skills
  • G class driver's license

The salary range for this position is  $30/hour.  The posted salary range represents the expected hiring range for GHD locations in its major city centres. Ranges may vary for positions in other locations. At GHD, base salary is determined by your skills, experience, qualifications and work location. We are committed to offering competitive compensation and adhere to all relevant pay transparency legislation.
