Junior Graphics Programmer information

What does a junior graphics programmer do?

A Junior Graphics Programmer is responsible for assisting in the development and implementation of visual elements in software, such as video games or simulations. They typically work under the guidance of senior graphics programmers to write and optimize code for rendering graphics, implementing shaders, and ensuring efficient use of hardware resources. Their tasks may also include debugging graphics issues, learning new graphics APIs, and collaborating with other team members to achieve visual targets. This entry-level role is a great way to gain experience in computer graphics and related technologies.

What types of projects and technologies do junior graphics programmers typically work on in their early career?

As a Junior Graphics Programmer, you’ll often start by supporting senior developers with tasks such as implementing rendering features, optimizing shaders, and debugging graphics pipelines. You may work with technologies like DirectX, OpenGL, or Vulkan, as well as graphics engines such as Unity or Unreal Engine. Early projects usually involve collaborating closely with artists and designers to ensure visual elements are integrated efficiently and look as intended. This role offers a great opportunity to learn best practices in real-time rendering and to develop problem-solving skills through hands-on experience with cutting-edge graphics techniques.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a junior graphics programmer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Junior Graphics Programmer, you generally need a solid understanding of computer graphics principles, proficiency in C++ or similar languages, and a relevant degree such as computer science or software engineering. Familiarity with graphics APIs like DirectX or OpenGL, shader languages (HLSL/GLSL), and version control systems like Git is typically expected. Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and effective communication help you stand out in collaborative development environments. These skills and qualifications are essential for creating visually compelling, high-performance graphics solutions that meet industry standards.

Job description

About the role:

The Senior Field DDC Engineer is an experienced technical contributor responsible for leading the deployment, commissioning, troubleshooting, and optimization of Delta Controls DDC-based building automation systems for mission-critical data center environments. This role serves as the primary technical resource on complex DDC projects, providing guidance to Field DDC Engineers while remaining highly hands-on in GCL+ programming, enteliWEB deployment, system integration, and commissioning.

The Senior Field DDC Engineer independently leads complex DDC implementations, mentors junior engineers, supports continuous improvement initiatives, and partners with project teams to ensure successful project execution. While this role provides technical leadership, it does not carry direct people management responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Advanced DDC Programming & Technical Execution
  • Lead development, configuration, deployment, and commissioning of complex Delta Controls DDC systems for data center BMS and EPMS applications
  • Program advanced GCL+ control logic including complex HVAC sequences, equipment staging, alarm handling, scheduling, trending, and system recovery
  • Configure Delta Controls enteliWEB environments including graphics, navigation, dashboards, user roles, and system connectivity
  • Develop and maintain controller databases, I/O structures, device bindings, and network configurations
  • Lead integration with PLCs, Ignition SCADA, Kepware, OPC UA, BACnet/IP, BACnet MS/TP, Modbus TCP, and third-party systems
  • Perform advanced troubleshooting of communications, data integrity, GCL+ logic, hardware, and performance issues
  • Validate complete DDC system functionality through commissioning, point-to-point testing, and customer acceptance
Technical Leadership
  • Serve as the technical lead on assigned DDC projects without direct people management responsibilities
  • Provide technical guidance and mentoring to Field DDC Engineers
  • Review engineering work for accuracy, consistency, and adherence to standards
  • Assist with complex design decisions and technical problem solving
  • Act as primary escalation point for difficult technical issues before involving the Lead Field DDC Engineer
  • Share knowledge through coaching, documentation, and hands-on field training
Project Leadership
  • Independently manage complex DDC workstreams from design through commissioning and turnover
  • Coordinate technical activities with Project Managers, Controls Engineers, field personnel, and customers
  • Identify technical risks and develop mitigation plans
  • Support project scheduling by identifying engineering dependencies and priorities
  • Participate in customer meetings and technical design reviews
Quality & Continuous Improvement
  • Drive adherence to company DDC development standards and engineering best practices
  • Develop reusable GCL+ code libraries, enteliWEB templates, and engineering standards
  • Document lessons learned and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives
  • Stay current on Delta Controls platform enhancements and emerging BAS technologies
  • Recommend improvements to engineering processes and deployment methodologies
Qualifications:

Required

  • 7+ years of hands-on DDC programming or building automation experience with strong Delta Controls focus
