Job description

Position Purpose:

The Senior Designer is responsible for leading the design and development of complex truss systems for commercial, industrial, and multifamily construction projects. This role ensures all truss designs are structurally sound, codecompliant, costeffective, and buildable while providing technical leadership, mentorship, and crossfunctional collaboration to support successful project delivery.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Produce, review, and approve detailed truss designs, layouts, and shop drawings for commercial and multifamily structures.

  • Interpret architectural and structural drawings, project specifications, and applicable building codes.

  • Collaborate with engineers to ensure structural integrity, design feasibility, and full code compliance.

  • Partner with sales, production, and field teams to resolve design challenges and support project execution.

  • Mentor and guide junior designers through technical support, quality review, and bestpractice development.

  • Identify opportunities to optimize material usage, reduce costs, and improve manufacturability while maintaining design integrity.

  • Manage multiple active projects simultaneously, ensuring timelines, accuracy, and clear communication are maintained.

  • Serve as a technical resource during design reviews, coordination meetings, and field issue resolution.

  • Direct Reports: May provide technical oversight and mentorship to junior designers (no direct supervisory responsibility unless assigned)

Minimum Qualifications

  • Solid understanding of structural engineering principles, engineered wood products, and the International Building Code (IBC).

  • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret complex architectural and structural drawings.

  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.

  • Familiarity with truss manufacturing processes and production constraints.

  • Experience working crossfunctionally with engineering, manufacturing, and construction teams.

The base salary for this position typically falls within the range of $69,100.00 to $89,800.00 annually. Starting wage may vary based on a number of factors including, but not limited to, the position being offered, location, education, training, and/or experience. SRS Distribution offers additional competitive and non-financial benefits. Depending on the role, associates may also be eligible for performance-based bonus programs, commissions, profit-sharing programs, car allowance or automobile and fuel program, and reimbursement for travel expenses in accordance with company travel policy.
