What does a Junior Full Stack Developer do when working remotely?

A Junior Full Stack Developer working remotely is responsible for building and maintaining both the front-end and back-end components of web applications from a remote location. Their tasks typically include writing code, debugging issues, collaborating with team members via online tools, and learning new technologies. They often work under the guidance of more experienced developers and use communication platforms to stay in sync with the team. Remote junior developers must be proactive in seeking feedback and managing their workload independently. This role offers flexibility, but also requires strong self-discipline and communication skills.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Junior Full Stack Developer (Remote), and why are they important?

To thrive as a Junior Full Stack Developer (Remote), you need a solid grasp of front-end and back-end programming languages (such as JavaScript, HTML/CSS, and Node.js or Python), and typically a relevant degree or coding bootcamp experience. Familiarity with version control systems like Git, databases (e.g., MongoDB, MySQL), and frameworks (like React or Express) is commonly required. Strong problem-solving abilities, self-motivation, and effective remote communication skills set standout candidates apart. These skills enable you to build and maintain robust applications, collaborate across distributed teams, and adapt to evolving technical requirements.

What are some common challenges faced by junior full stack developers working remotely, and how can they overcome them?

One of the most common challenges for junior full stack developers working remotely is effective communication and collaboration with their team. Without in-person interactions, it can be harder to ask quick questions or get immediate feedback. To overcome this, it's important to proactively participate in virtual meetings, make use of collaboration tools like Slack or Microsoft Teams, and regularly update progress on shared platforms. Additionally, remote junior developers should seek mentorship from more experienced team members and not hesitate to ask for help when needed. Building strong time-management habits and setting a structured work schedule also contribute to success in a remote environment.

Lead Full-Stack Developer Remote

This role supports a federal client and requires the ability to obtain a public trust clearance. No sponsorship is available.

We are seeking a Lead Full-Stack Developer to support a major federal modernization initiative focused on building secure, scalable, cloud-native applications on AWS. This is a remote, hands-on technical leadership role for someone who can lead architecture, mentor developers, define technical standards, and still contribute directly to full-stack engineering.

What You Will Do:

• Lead and mentor full-stack development teams supporting cloud modernization, product development, and solution architecture initiatives. • Provide hands-on full-stack engineering and architectural oversight for secure, scalable, distributed applications built on AWS. • Design and implement frontend and backend services using Python, JavaScript, Django, Vue.js, REST APIs, microservices, containers, and AWS-native services. • Collaborate with clients, solution architects, product owners, UX designers, business analysts, platform engineers, and development teams to deliver resilient software products that meet functional and non-functional requirements. • Define application architecture standards, development best practices, design patterns, and technical roadmaps across complex modernization projects. • Ensure solutions align with AWS Well-Architected Framework principles, modern CI/CD practices, API-first design, event-driven architecture, and cloud-native engineering standards. • Lead technical decision-making, evaluate design tradeoffs, provide escalation support, and guide implementation across multiple concurrent initiatives. • Support proof-of-concept development, technical demonstrations, proposal efforts, RFP responses, and technical thought leadership.

What You Will Need:

• Ability to obtain a public trust clearance. • No sponsorship available. • Minimum of 8 years of relevant full-stack application development experience, including at least 4 years in technical leadership, architecture, or team lead roles. • Bachelor’s degree required, or 12 years of relevant experience in lieu of a degree. • Strong hands-on experience with Python and JavaScript. • Experience leading or mentoring teams of 5 or more developers. • Experience building frontend and backend services for cloud-native software products. • Django experience preferred; Flask, FastAPI, Falcon, or SQLAlchemy may be considered as alternatives. • Vue.js experience preferred; React, Svelte, or Angular 1.6+ may be considered as alternatives. • Experience with microservices architecture, REST API design, Docker or Kubernetes, serverless computing, and CI/CD for enterprise applications. • Familiarity with AWS SAM and design patterns such as MVC, Circuit Breaker, and Event-Driven Architecture. • Ability to design, build, test, deploy, and architect custom AWS cloud applications. • Strong understanding of Agile and Scaled Agile software delivery practices. • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to explain technical tradeoffs to technical and non-technical stakeholders.

What Would Be Nice to Have:

• AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Professional. • AWS Certified Developer – Associate. • Experience with AWS Lambda, API Gateway, Step Functions, EventBridge, EKS/Kubernetes, RDS PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Redis, Memcached, Elasticsearch, Docker, and modern monitoring/observability tools. • Experience supporting technical proposals, white papers, RFPs/RFIs, or consulting solution architecture efforts. • Experience with performance tuning, capacity planning, and operational resilience for large-scale distributed systems. • Contributions to open-source projects, technical publications, or cloud-native development thought leadership.
