Familiarity with industry-standard software such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or MATLAB, and sometimes entry-level certifications, is typically required. Strong communication, teamwork, and eagerness to learn help junior engineers collaborate effectively and adapt to new challenges. These skills and qualities are crucial for contributing to team projects, learning quickly on the job, and developing into a successful engineer.

What is a junior engineer?

A junior engineer is an entry-level engineering professional who reports to and learns from a senior engineer. You can find junior engineering jobs in every subset of the engineering field: industrial engineering, electrical engineering, civil engineering, materials engineering, and computer engineering. As a junior engineer, your job duties include testing project components, identifying problems and discovering solutions, working on ongoing projects based on specifications or drawings, and collaborating with teams of other engineers.

What are some common challenges faced by junior engineers when starting in a new team, and how can they overcome them?

Junior Engineers often encounter challenges such as adjusting to unfamiliar engineering tools, understanding existing codebases, and communicating effectively with senior team members. Job description

Staff Electrical Design Engineer (EPC) — Your Stamp on Every Drawing

Carson City, NV | Full-Time | $145,000 – $185,000

The Opportunity

If you're tired of designing one slice of a project and handing it off, keep reading. Our client, a fast-growing clean energy innovator, is hiring a Staff Electrical Design Engineer to carry electrical design from first concept through construction — as Electrical Engineer of Record. The portfolio is anything but repetitive: hazardous occupancy spaces, industrial recycling facilities, labs, offices, warehouses, and 34.5 kV/24.9 kV site infrastructure across multiple locations.

Why You'll Love It

  • Full-cycle authority: Concept, permit, construction, commissioning — all yours
  • Project diversity most engineers never see: MV infrastructure to lab fit-outs
  • Real engineering: Optimized ampacity calcs and power studies, not table lookups
  • Carson City lifestyle: Minutes from Tahoe, zero state income tax

What You'll Do

  • Own a wide range of electrical systems — MV feeds up to 34.5 kV, LV distribution, lighting, raceway, grounding, communications
  • Produce permit and construction drawings as Electrical Engineer of Record
  • Run short-circuit, arc flash, and coordination studies in SKM or ETAP
  • Perform cable ampacity calculations (AmpCalc) to optimize beyond prescriptive NEC tables
  • Drive multi-discipline coordination to complete Issue for Construction packages
  • Vet conceptual designs for technical and financial risk; prepare specs and evaluate consultant bids
  • Lead NEC, IECC, and NFPA code analysis across all deliverables
  • Handle construction administration — RFIs, submittals, change orders, inspections — through commissioning
  • Estimate costs, build schedules, QA/QC designs, and mentor junior engineers

What You'll Bring

  • BS/MS in Electrical Engineering (ABET)
  • Active PE (Nevada or reciprocity-eligible); NV and SC licensure within 2 months of start
  • 10+ years in heavy commercial/industrial design with evidence of exceptional ability
  • Command of NEC, IECC, and relevant NFPA standards
  • Advanced proficiency: Revit MEP, AutoCAD, Navisworks, Bluebeam, SKM/ETAP, AmpCalc, Visual/AGI lighting software
  • Proven ability to run multiple concurrent projects independently
  • Site travel flexibility for construction administration and commissioning
  • Communication that lands with field crews and executives alike

Own the whole design. Apply today.
